5DPT:Started Today..
Hello everyone!
I have a question about the 5DPT. Today is my first day following this. I have been reading off/on over the past few months people going on this diet. I know it is for just five days, but how would you go about extending this? I was down to 132 lbs, but this lasted only about a minute! I have climbed my way back up to 170 lbs. This is scaring me to death! I remember seeing a particular diet that a doctor would put his patients on if they began to gain. Does anyone remember what this diet is? I want to get through these five days, but then continue doing something to get my weight off.
Thanks all for reading.
Janie
this 5 day pouch test is to help you regain control of your pouch, to get back in touch, to get back to the basics..your plan, just like everyone else's and mine shouldve been all along is
1. PROTEIN
2. VITAMINS
3. 30 MINUTE RULE (wait 30 minutes before or after eating)
4. EXERCISE
5. DRINK
i just finished Day 4 and i feel the greatest ive felt in a longgg time. it truly has helped me kick my carb cravings and reconnect with my pouch ..i feel satisfied and have not deprived my self of hunger or thirst
we've been given a wonderful tool and i think alot of us were naive to think we wouldnt have to work at a healthy lifestyle anymore ..ive found out all too quickly and as 30 pounds piled back on that it is what you make of it ..only you can make it work ..you can do anything when you put your mind to it
take care -hugs- :)
After the test is really up to you...Knowing how much you are eating really really helps. Logging or journaling your food/calorie intake is EXTREMELY helpful in keeping your weight maintained or to begin weight loss. I personally have just been experiementing with what makes me gain or lose or maintain. I could stand to lose a few pounds...but I mainly just want to stay within 5 or so pounds of where I am. I have been too busy to keep track lately...maybe it's an excuse for my bad behavior lately....But I am busy and need to make time for MY health.
I weigh about what you do now...But my goal was 160..and I try to maintain 165lbs...although I would probably be happier if I got back down towards the lower 160's...I'm having a little trouble lately myself...mostly because I am just not trying hard enough...and I know it! I have company and I'm just allowing a little too much naughty taste here, handful there kinda no-no's! But I'm in control...sorta-kinda. I can say my pouch is certainly letting me know I've been naughty...So it's time to get back on track for me too. I had my week of fun...Time to get serious again.
There are different journaling sites...Fitday.com and sparkpeople.com.....I use http://www.thedailyplate.com/ But I journal by hand into a notebook...I just find it handy to carry the notebook around and keep track of my calories all day...But they do have an online log too.
If I can't find the calories at the Daily Plate, I do a google search for specific recipes....by adding the word "nutrition" to the end of the search word it works great for hard to find nutriton facts on restaurant and other foods. Once you become familiar with how many grams of fat and carbs and calories are in the everyday food you eat....You might be like me...SHOCKED at how many calories are in the stuff you just had no idea were so high. And somethings are so low that it's amazing how easy it is to eat lean and cut back when you have a better idea of what you are really eating. It keeps you honest with yourself too.
I have tried to stop journaling to see if I can do this on my own again...and I find I am being less strict and sure enough...I'm up two pounds for the last few weeks!!! So I think it's back to logging my calories and staying honest to myself. It's easy to gain...after 4.5 years...and harder to lose...Journaling keeps me in control. Also, measuring out a serving until you can visualize what an ounce or 1/4 C looks like, really helps too. This also keeps me honest. When I eat out of a box..I can EAT! So I measure stuff out and take one serving. If I want more, I might take another serving...but at least I don't have my hand in the bag or the box pretending i only ate a serving! YEAH! That's too easy to fool myself. It's a pain in the butt to measure and weigh food...but eventually you can see what a 3-4 ounce piece of meat looks like...without guessing. I can do it right to the ounce without a scale these days.
Good luck...Get rid of the carbs and used to the pouch rules again with the 5DPT and then get really serious and honest with yourself. That's the hardest part for me...I'm such an honest person...except to myself...tis true! LOL When it comes to my looks, I am harsh and unforgiving...and when it comes to discipline, I can be too lax...Still trying to find that happy medium and anything that keeps myself level headed. You don't have to be perfect, you just have to try more often than not...It's worked for me for 4.5 years. I'm not perfect, but I'm perfectly happy...
Thanks to both of you for your thoughtful responses. I am now on day 2 of the 5DPT. I have been less hungry eating this way so I can see that the carb monster was getting to me before! Anyway, I am looking forward to tuna salad tomorrow and tilapia fish!
I had lost all control before. I had two weight loss surgeries: November 2004 and March 2005. The first surgery was the gastric sleeve. I had it done first because my liver was grossly enlarged. I went from 322 lbs. down to about 132, but that only lasted about a second! I crawled right back up. I started getting very lax forgetting about our pouch rules.
Anyway, I am sure hoping this 5DPT will do the trick.
Thanks again!
Janie
