.Anita R & Melting Mama & opened my eyes & turned me onto the serious & possibly deadly issue of malabsorbtion  If you havent already done so, take a half an hour (or whatever) to "absorb" the following which is applicable to everyone at all stages of the WL journey (so yes, preops too): http://download.journals.elsevierhealth.com/pdfs/journals/15 50-7289/PIIS1550728908001639.pdf Very interesting article (that i havent had the opp to cover in word for word detail, but have rather been skimming over) that offers both PreOp & PostOp risks, supplement suggestions, what the deficiency causes are for each vit., symptoms of each & suggested recommendations for each! I had NO idea of the severity of this & that  NOT taking my vits COULD cause: "Advanced symptoms of deficiency Wet beriberi: high output heart failure with dyspnea due to peripheral vasodilation, tachycardia, cardiomegaly, pulmonary and peripheral edema, warm extremities, mimicking cellulites..." ALONG WITH a whole host of other life threatening issues.  UGH i cant believe how LAME ive been - sitting here thinking "oh Im a little shaky but my annual bloods come back sparkling all the time. Im doing great!! I dont need to take my vits. i hate um anyways" LAME The more research I do on this subject the more i realize how vital it is to my (our) survival & well being.  So move over .Anita R & Melting Moma, im getting on that soap box with ya :)

I agree they are a pain.  I have this cute basket on the counter and two bottles by the bed for my evening supplements.  It's scary when you read about all that can happen by not taking them.  Nerve damage, anemea to just name the ones I know.  So if you have enough room on that soap box I'll join you

This is a very informative article written by highly qualified group of well educated Registered Dieticians and Nutritionists.  This thing is 36 pages long, so get your fluid of choice and kick back if you are planning on reading the whole thing.  (This is what I do for a living - Bariatric Program Director). Remember the article is a peer reviewed article from a professional journal, which imparts credibility to the study. Have fun reading the vast amount of information and use what you gleen that is appropriate for your personal situation. Happy reading, Cindy
