Stuck in a BIG BIG Rut and Very Angery with MYSELF
Hi I'm new to this site and currently living in The Nethrtlands but am originally from Australia, Any way I had my gastric banding here in Holland on the 26/2/2006. I have come to a stage after holidaying back in Australia last year with my family and whilst there getting married to my Dutch husband right up till my last weigh in I have managed to regaine 7kg, that has caused me to become dishearted and very disapointed with myself, and sice arriving back in Holland I have been trying so hard in the last 6 months to reshed these unwonted kilograms but without and sucsess, I'm feeling like a big failure . My eating habbets are good though out the day I eat oats for brecky that keeps me going all morning and then i will have a fruit smoothie for lunch, eating a few raw vegies inbetween times, but when it comes to my evening meal I eat big it's like my brains telling me im still hungery when I know my stomack is telling me other wise, How can I stop this? I also drink up to at least 2 letres of water a day. I've been reading so many of the sucsess stories on this site and think why is it not going that way for me, My mother had here banding done in Australia and has done exctreamly well shes gone from a size 28/30 to a size 10/12.(Australian sizes)
I think your problem may be that you are not getting enough protein in - are you getting 65-86 grams of protein a day? Oatmeal does not have that much and smoothies probably don't have any unless you are adding protein powder. Protein is the number one important thing to keep you going and your weight constant. Try adding protein powder to your oatmeal along with an egg. Try adding fish or chicken in at lunch - and then maybe at dinner you won't be as hungry.
An ounce of chicken has about 7 grams of protein I believe. An egg has 6 grams of protein.
The webste you can find how much protein, calories, fat, etc. is in a certain food is: http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/
Hope this helps!

Welcome to OH and the WLS Grads Board. I LOVE this board. You'll receive so much support and great information.
You're eating more carbs with the oats and fruit smoothie without the benefit of protein. Protein will provide you with satiety that will help you not feel so hungry in the evening. Try to include protein with each meal. I think your body is telling you in the evening that, in fact, you are hungry. Stagger your meals throughout the day to include a dense protein at each one.
You are NOT a failure at all. You only need to tweak your eating slightly. Protein is important and key in weight loss surgery success. Make sure you are getting adequate protein throughout the day. How many protein grams are you eating per day? I suspect you are low which is a cause for the additional evening hunger you're feeling.
We're here for you!!

Hi Softbubbles,
Don't be so hard on yourself. I would agreed with the previous member's post: you need to increase your proteins. Try having small meals throughout the day that consist of healthy proteins. What about exercise? Adding a good exercise routine will help get the extra weight off and keep it off.
Best wishes,
Tammie

It is likely that you aren't eating enough. Your body will hang on to every last shred if it thinks you are 'starving'...eating too lightly throughout the day will also lead to the bingeing you describe around dinner time. It is tough, but you can get back on track. Go back to basics. Eating several small meals through the day can help. Just make sure you are getting good protein. If you eat a little every 2-3 hours you will not be hungry.
Just wanted to welcome you to the Grad's board! I have to agree with the advice you've already been given~more protein and possibly higher calores. Also, what's your exercise routine like? You CAN do this so don't give up. Sometimes we just have to find the right balance for our body to kick start things again!

I eat hot cereal in the morning too but I either add TVP protein or protein powder to it to boost the protein level. You might try that, if you can find the protein powder there...I'm not sure if you have Textured Vegetable (Soy) Protein available but you can get it on-line..
Also, if you're not eating dense protein, it doesn't stay in your small stomach too long. Yogurt or pudding will go right through but meat will stick for a while making you feel fuller longer. At least that is my finding.

Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!
