Question for 3-4+ post op people...
Hi I am in a decision making place where I am wondering what procedure is best one for me... LAP or RNY.. or DS... I was recently told by someone who is 4 years out with RNY that there is a lot of problems with people who are 4+ years out. So I am doing a survey… how many people 3-4+ years out are having health issues? Thanks for letting me know as my appt is this Tuesday and I am still in research mode..
I'm 3 1/2 years post-op and haven't had one problem. Some people do have problems, no matter what surgery. The most important thing is to take your supplements, get regular labs drawn and track them to see trends, and get in your protein.

I had Rny almost 5 years ago, and so far I have not had any complications. My labs are always good. You can have problems with any of the surgeries. Not everyone, but some who have issues farther out down the road deal with deficiencies due to lack of taking their supplements like they should or not taking them in the correct form. The best thing to remember with any of the surgeries is to make sure that you take the supplements like you should and in the right form so that you absorb them. There are rules to follow with all surgery types. You just have to study them all and see what you think will be easiest for you to follow and live with for the rest of your life. Good luck with your decision. I hope you get a date soon. Keep us posted.

There's a guy on the RNY forum named Dave that swears by liquid vitamins and that he absorbs them better than chewable or pill forms. He says his vit levels became a lot better once he started the liquid vitamins and that's all he uses now! Maybe your friend can check into the liquid vitamins and see if she absorbs them better.

Im comming up on 3 years... I have malabsortion of B12 but can get it injected. I also have more hypoglycemic episodes. these can be corrected by doing a low carb diabetic like diet. But it may just be me and my own personal chemistry. Jess
