How many here can eat sweets????
Hi Everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone here is just like me. I know with the RNY surgery we have a problem with digesting food with too much sugar or fat, which causes us to dump. I am over a year out now, and I don't eat sweets because I can not tolerate it, is this true for anyone else? I am glad that this surgery is like this because sweets was my biggest downfall. This surgery is a great tool, because it not only stops me from eating too much it stops me from eating the wrong things.

I *can* eat sweets, but chose not to very often or keep them pretty limited. I couldn't handle any amount of sugar for the first 18mths (I never tried sugary things during this time, but didn't feel well after eating some yogurt when I didn't realize how high the sugar content was). After 18mths I loosened up a bit and tried a few things with no problems. Keeping it as a treat is what works for me~Like yesterday I made homemade peanut butter cookies and I had one and thoroughly enjoyed it, but one was enough and now I'm done.

Hello,
My body is very selective and a lot of times it depends on what else I've eaten. I can eat a sugar donut with no problem, but any others it's more often bad than good. Cake - no way. Milk choc - not good, dark choc - great. I have a harder time with refined carbs than anything else.
Depending on how you look at it, chocolate of all kinds is off limits for me for at least the next 6 weeks as I was diagnosed as having an ucler - caused most likely by the caffiene in the chocolate. Didn't think there was enough in chocolate to be a problem.

I still follow the rules. Nothing with a sugar contant over 12 grams.
I had this surgery because sweets and carbs were my downfall.
i won't test the sugar rule at all because I would be afraid if I don't dump then I'll go back to my old ways.
I know if I have too many carbs I'll have a reactive hypoglycia reaction. That keeps me in check most of the time.
It is a wonderful tool. But we must work it.

I can have a bite possibly two of sweets. I only have cake or such things at very special occasions. I truly don't miss it. I have been known to go nuts with Cadbury eggs around Easter time though. For some reason I simply cannot (or will not) pass those by when I see them.
Again, sugar for me is a trigger food and I do try to stay away. I do not deprive myself though. But only a bite or two is all I can handle even this far out.

Me... I can..
and boy can I .. I can eat all sorts of sweets, cakes, cookies, candies... I dump on fats..
but if I overdo the sugar thing.. I get sleepy.. another form of dumping.. but stomach wise no discomfort at all... It all started the Halloween after my surgery..
However, Godiva makes me dump about 30 minutes after eating it.. no matter how much.. I think it is the alcohol or something in the product..
If I had never tryied sweets after my surgery.. I probably be a happy woman....
