2 Questions for you WLS grads
First I have to disagree on the caffeine myths such as it dehydrates you and it is bad for you and doesn't count as liquid, etc! It has some ill effects on some people...just as some people are allergic to peanuts or can't have salt with high blood pressure etc. I just had to comment on that because I do count my caffeine as liquid and it doesn't dehydrate me...infact some days if it weren't for my coffee in the morning, I wonder if I'd even have anything to drink til lunch or even dinner when I get really busy!... Here's one opinion from CNN News Medical correspondant Elizabeth Cohen when asked " PHILLIPS: All right, does caffeine make you dehydrated?
COHEN: This to me was the most surprising one. The answer here, that is false. Caffeine does not dehydrate you. We have all heard that. It turns out that it is something of an urban myth. What they did is they gave people caffeinated beverages and gave them other kinds of beverages, and caffeinated beverages did not dehydrate them when taken in normal levels. When they gave people tons and tons of these, then could it dehydrate them. Of course, if you're going for a hike in 100 degree weather, you don't want to be drinking just caffeinated beverages; you want to mix it up. But it is not actually going to dehydrate you if you are just drinking a couple of caffeinated beverages."

I was getting about 60 gs of protein for about 3 years...sometimes more or less...My Nut is also one that prefers we eat regular small meals and not use supplements....It has worked for me...But when I wanted to cut back on some bad carb habits like full sugar fru fru cremes in my coffee, I decided to replace that with a protein since I was eating that along with a cereal and I needed to lose a few pounds that I gained because of a carb binge last winter!......I begain adding protein powder to my coffee as a fru fru replacement and skip breakfast as well...This has been my routine for a year now....I think it has truly benefited me greatly...I now get in a good 80-100 gs of protein and less carbs because of this! I don't feel guilty skipping breakfast because I am getting protein and I am not hungry til 2-3 when I eat a late lunch. Sometimes I have a fruit, like a banana inbetween protein coffee and lunch.
I am finding it very hard to get in water as it got colder...I just do not wan****er when it's cold...My vits are making my urine neon yellow and I know I should be flushing out til it's at least light and normal looking yellow, but I cannot seem to do it lately...So you and me both need to start drinking some more! Summer, I have no trouble and my urnine is clear as water, No lie!...I am all on top of my water...but I just don't seem to need it as much in the cooler weather...I'm sure I still need to keep it up though...Good luck with that.

I agree I do not want cold drinks in winter. Instead I do Crystal lite lemonade individual servings in 10oz ounces of ho****er at night after dinner. I put it in an insulated mug and drink it all evening. Spaces out the consumption---less running to the bathroom. Secondly, sweet things make the lemonade taste more bitter and nasty, so I find I snack less in the evening. As a DS and having a vertical sleeve with an intact pyloric valve, filling up on fluids makes me feel full and less hungry in the evening.
I actually travel with the little indivdual packages as most hotel rooms have coffee pots in the room and I just brew up some water and make it there. The Super-8 in Annapolis does not have indivudual coffee pots but the night clerk lets me use the employee microwave.
Earlier in the day I also do the Peach Tea hot too, however I do not want the caffeine that close to bedtime so it is a morning treat.

Gratitude is my attitude
