SUDDEN profuse sweating - should I be concerned?

Okay, whenever something weird happens to me, I like to come to OH to see if someone else has has this happen before. So, hopefully someone can help.

I am over 3 years post-op with no real problems except some vit. d deficiency. (taking meds)

Well, 2 or 3 times in the past year I have had SUDDEN profuse sweating. Yesterday was one time.

As far as I can tell this isn't anything related to dumping. I rarely dump, but know what it is when it happens. I drink plenty of water, including yesterday.

So I am sitting there and all of a sudden I start to feel hot and then I begin to feel very shaky. Not very noticeable shaky to others, but I feel like my arms and legs are electrified. And I start sweating so bad all my hair gets soaked, and my shirt (I was wearing a nightshirt at the time) was completely soaked through. I mean, sweat pouring off of me - head, face, arms, body - pouring. For about 10 minutes...and then it's gone. ANd I am totally fine after that.

I had a total hysterectomy one year before my RNY but take hormone replacement, so I don't think this is a hot flash.

It's only happened 3 times in the past year to a year and a half.

Anyone ever had anything like that?

Part of me wondered if that might be it. It came and was gone in 10 minutes, but it felt so different than "night sweats" or other things I have experiences if I miss my Premarin. Maybe it was though? I just though the profuse amount of sweating was kinda crazy!

Thanks for the reply!

my mom had a hysterectomy many years ago... she gets the same thing as you.. sweats and whatnot.. hers are a little more frequent thou. I would definately address with the doc but my guess would be its related to that more than the surgery *shrug*

Sounds like reactive hypoglycemia / low blood sugar to me ... same thing happens to me.

I sweat as if i ran a marathon - I usually drink milk, have fruit snacks, or take a glucose table ... depends where it happens.

Britt

Thanks for the replies. I found that I ate a little bit this time and it went away pretty quick.  I guess I better check with the doc, too!

It might be your bloodsugar levels.

I agree with the reactive hypoglycemia....that is one of the signs.....get a meter and the next time that happens test your blood...I was told pretty much normal is between 90 - 110....mine has droped as low as 39 and man is that scarey...keep a record of your levels when it happens.
