What would YOU have done?

I am at a stage where I would have said something... previously I would have not. It took me a while before I told people I didnt care about that I had surgery. I was scared I wouldnt lose all my weight and even more scared that I wouldnt keep it off. Now I am 2.5 years out and maintained almost a year I am more comfortable.
I would have started with some general statements and if people started to get defensive I may pull the 'I had surgery card'. My favorite is when people say that WLS people 'dont eat'... I ask, do you think I eat weird? That always throws them... Ill ask again about if I eat weird or appear not to eat? And then tell them I had surgery.. makes them think twice.
I remind people that as with anything in life there are always failures... not just w/WLS... success stories dont make the news/tabloids like bad things... you hear about celebrities loosing weight and its a little blurb, they regain weight and their pictures are everywhere and all sorts of stories pop up... thats just how things are.

WLS worked for me so I have no trouble with nay sayers...I am the proof to the argument and it's kinda hard to argue when I have kept my weight off 5 years next month!  I got the trump card...can't beat that.

I don't often come right out and tell people though and I have not been in that situation but a few times and like I said...people shut right up when they see for themselves it worked on me! I'm not rude about it...or anything...I don't get defensive at all...I get excited and happy that I can give people a positive version to their negativity towards it...Often they know of someone who knows someone else who had problems with regain or with complications or they heard stories...and are just repeating what they heard especially from our famous WLS people who are NOT the best poster children for our surgery.  Money can't buy you success in WLS...You still gotta work for it...Complications unfortunately, though...those are free...I got some of those in the form of vit deficiencies...

I'm not sure what I would have said. However, I dislike judgemental people who haven't walked in the shoes of the people they expressed opinions about.Without having been fat, and unable to lose weight and keep it off, how does one discuss a decision of another's to have weight loss surgery???
I think I would have helped them overcome their ignornace, but maybe not.  How do you feel about it now?
