Should I be depressed?
I'm almost 13 months post op. I have lost down to a size 12 from a size 22/24. Should I be depressed because I'm no longer losing? I'm not gaining, but I just thought I'd lose a lot more weight. I eat good choices usually focusing on protein and portion control. I know I should drink more water and consume less sugar. Exercise could be increased too but I am just not a gym rat and the weather hasn't permitted much outdoor exercise. (In spring and summer I was running 3.5 miles/day).
I've got the blues and am feeling sorry for myself. Someone kick me please?

Hi. Depression seems to be a reoccuring feeling with most if not all WLS. You may be stalled, but you are still on track if you follow some simple rules. Don't stress, everything is fine! .
I am not a WLS but my wife is. I can only tell you what worked for her and I have opserved. She was 240 at her highest, and 224 at RNY surgery. She is a big success, but goes to www.fitday.com and does her eats daily. 11 months out she was 122, and has maintained 125-128 for 1 1/2 years now. I believe her secret is monitoring what she eats every day, carbs, cals, fat and protein. Keeping the protein around 130gms every day, and her cals at 1600 or so. If she gains weight in a day, she increases her protein and reduces her cals and can loose as much as 2 pounds the next day. The opposite happens if she increases hes cals and decreases her protein. She doesn't really worry too much about her carbs and fat unless something happens she can't control, and that has not happened yet. She stays completely away from Any suger, it makes her dump right away and even if she didn't dump, it can cause a really bad habbit of eating the really bad foods. She does exersize, but not that much as she has a desk job. She also gets plenty of water, a gallon or more every day, very important. She does not drink a 1/ 2 hour before or arter eating. She has a number of snacks, crackers with hash, cheeses, and popcorn, just to mention a few. None do her any harm. We have numerous sugar free products in the kitchen, and I like making her sugar free chocolate cupcakes which she enjoys immensly, and no harm. Keep it up, you will be as successful as most of the others here on OH, good luck.

No kicking. I don't do that cuz some people kick back!
Should you be depressed? You should be whatever it takes to get you motivated again. depressed, angry...whatever it takes.
You definitely need to get your water in and leave the sugar alone but you know that. You just need the motivation to get those things started. As for running 3.5 miles aday... You need to get moving. Maybe not to that extent at this time of year but just getting moving will chase those blues away. Start out small and increase as you feel better. Park further away from the store, walk back and forth inside the store from one side to the other even if you see what you want next to what you just picked up. Walk to the next shopping center instead of driving...whatever it takes to get you moving...
You'll feel better if you get those feet moving and then you won't feel so sorry for yourself. You'll fell better cuz you did something.

Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Don't give up! I thought I was done losing at 1 year out, but continued to slowly, slowly drop..to the point where I went from a size 10/12 at 1 year to a size 4/6 (where i'm still at) at 2 years... sometimes its slow and easy that wins the race.

My journey is successful, only because I remember what road I was on when I started it..and my determination to never go back to that road will keep me going in the right direction.
