low rion
I'm taking liquid iron which I put 1 tsp. (220mg.) in orange juice and take with 500 vitamin C. I've only been doing that for a week, my mom told me about taking it with the vitamin C, it helps you absorb the iron. She read it online.
I got in to see the hematologist yesterday and my hemoglobin was up to 9.9 from 8.9 almost 3 weeks ago. I think it's because the first two draws (which were both 8.9) were right after my period and this draw (yesterday's) was right before (I started this morning). He didn't order the infusions, he wants to see if it comes up with what I'm doing and re-check in one month. He said at almost 10 I shouldn't feel too many symptoms, but i don't feel too much better. I'll probably be dragging by this time next week.
I am able to function quite well. I drink a lot of coffee! I didn't realize that I've been slowly drinking more and more, couldn't figure out why I was having to buy it so often at the grocery store! The doctor yesterday told me that ferritin measures the iron that's stored in your body, which I basically have none stored, but that will go up after my hemoglobin goes up. I've heard of tender iron and perfect iron from other posters on here and i'm thinking about trying one of them. The doctor didn't think it mattered what kind of iron I take, but we post op WLS people know better!
My iron count was 18 in Feb., I don't know what it is now, but that seems really low to me. My vitamin D was a little low as well. B-12 was normal.

Tender builds ferritin better than other irons. Your iron wants to be around 90. Ferritin around 200.
What is the name of the liquid iron? Floradix? *I* would not use it personally, stains teeth, wrong iron, expensive, but I got my iron deal ironed out a decade ago.
D is low world wide, no matter how close to the equator ppl live. Sun is NOT the best source of vit D.
PM me if you want to fix your vit D, ok?
B12 is normal. What are the numbers for D and B12?

P.S. My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.
