Bruising more often than usual?
Hi,
I have noticed that bruises have been appearing more often than in the past, especially on my legs. I have always been pretty active outside and tend to bump into things from time to time but I haven't really concerned about it until recently.
Could it be a result of malabsorption? Does my body need more than I'm giving it? I had RNY gastric bypass 3 years ago and take my vitamins (multi, calcium, B-12) regular for the most part. Or, should I be adding another vitamin to my routine to help?
Thanks.

Hey I have been seeing the same thing, my iron is low I know that is for sure and I am also on aspirin daily for vascular disease. I am on Repliva daily now for my iron. I am seeing my WLS surgeon in 2 weeks. I had Plastics about 7 weeks ago.
I take a b complex vit. but I may need to do 2 aday instead of 1. Good luck with this and let me know if it works out.

Hi Lori,
Sounds like you've used up all of your A,D,E & K stores. You're about 3 years out, so right about now is where the doc's see a lot of these deficiencies in RNY people. These are the fat-soluble vitamins that the human body stores. (along with iron and a couple of others) So if you have NOT been supplementing with a dry form, of all of these, it's time to get your labs done to see where you are with the ADE&K and iron too, cause your stores of these will run out eventually.
I had bad, bad, bruising on my arms. I called it my old lady skin. It looked like someone kept beating on me. New ones would appear daily. I had my doc run my labs and it was a deficiency with my A and D. I've been taking DRY vitamin A and D and all the bruising is gone now.
Check with your doc. It's time for labs!
Hope this helps!

I'd look at iron, then vit K.
But if you're not taking dry forms of A, D, E, then those can cause problems., If you can SEE the bruising, imagine what is happening to bones and teeth not being fed vit D or eyes not being fed vit A. Scary

P.S. My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.
GNC has some, not all and in very low doses.
A has to be retinol (not beta carotene)
D has to be D3
E has to be d-alpha tocopherol sucinate (not dl-alpha)
K1 can be either of the 2 p-words that I'd have go look at to spell.
They all have to be dry form. Capsules with powder
