Even though I have not tried them personally, I work for a Vitamin Shoppe and have heard many, many disgusting stories, concerning the side effects of this drug. In fact, my company will NOT sell it, because of this. From what information, I gather from my customers, most people WILL get these side effects of constant explosive diarrhea and trips to the bathroom all day. Yuck!!!!
A thermogenic fat burner like Jet Fuel or Redline works better I think. IF....you can tolerate the caffiene and other stimulants in there. And use it ONLY, for a short amount of time, like to drop 15 to 20 lbs quickly. (and yes, NOT the healthiest way to do it, however!) But having said that, the fat burner type of supplement is far better than Alli...Hope this helps!

I think it is the same as Xenical - it prevents the absorption of fats.  So if you think about it, something has to happen to the fats that you eat - hence the nasty side effects down below!!

I tried them pre wls but as I had a low fat diet anyway they didn't do anything for me.

First off the alli blocks only 5% of the fat you ingest.  You should be adhering to a low fat lifestyle without the use of this product.  So really, why pay money for this potentially embarrassing product when a real change is needed and would work just as well?

I have been struggling to lose weight ever since I had my RNY!  I have had them in my shopping cart several times.  I would think they would basically make us dump from eating fat.  I never had dumping so I thought it would be a good idea.  I have seen other people post with your question but there has never been anyone that tried it post op.  Please come back and let us know if you try it.  If it could keep me honest I think it would be worth it.  I need to get rid of a lot of weight too and the RNY just is not helping me change my eating habits because I don't dump and I never feel like I have eaten anything.  Daisy

I never feel like I have eaten anything

One of the things RNY did for me is make it so that I'm never hungry*  The flipside is that it didn't make me feel full either.  What I came to recognize was that my neutral (not hungry/not full) feeling was just a normal state of being.  This meant that when I want to eat (which I always do) I ask myself:  Is it time to eat?  Am I hungry or is this just the food addiction?  The answer is usually: No, You're not hungry so don't eat.

Three years out now, I know when I'm "full"  There is about one bite difference from "feeling fine" to "OMG it hurts I gotta throw up"

*I always tell people: I'm never hungry but I always want to eat.

I would do anything to feel "OMG it hurts I gotta throw up".  My surgeon told me he can't help me and said I should go see Dr. Chua.  Dr. Prewitt was trained by Dr. Chua.  I still think I can make this work.  I lost 110 lbs before surgery for pete's sake!!!!!  At least my diabetes is under control now.  I heard of Dr. Chua and Dr. Wallace but I was happy with the Advanced Healthcare doctors.  Dr. Miller put my body back together and gave quality back to my life.  I didn't realize that I was one of Dr. Prewitt's first patients.  I have never thrown up, felt full, felt nauseous, dumped...nothing.  I ate a plate of food in the hospital 2 days post op and remember thinking "how can I eat all this and not feel anything?".  I guess a 2 oz pouch is quite a bit bigger than a 1 oz pouch.  I guess some docs even do 1/2 oz pouches.  He also changed after my surgery and uses a smaller stoma hole punch now.  I never have any mal absorption either from the shorter bypass.  It is sort of having a RNY without having one.  I just would do anything to not be hungry all the time.  Maybe that comes from my blood sugars fluctuating.  I read so many happy posts from Dr. Chua's patients.  I am glad it is working for you.  Daisy

martin,

You described that all so well! I have experienced the same thing, I'm not hungry, but I'm not full, it's like I'm looking for that "full feeling" and I need to learn and adjust to the nuetral feeling of being neither hungry or full. I like the "is it time to eat?" Question, I will work with that.

And I know what you're talking about with the a one bite difference between feeling fine to OMG I need to lay down for 30 minutes!  After 3 years I am FINALLY learning to not take that last bite (most of the time) and am not needing to lay down as often during the day due to one bite too many :)

Thanks for your post, it was helpful.

Same way here!  I am never truly hungry but food still consumes my mind.  Try to keep thinking and doing the way you are now, I'm 4+ years and the past year my mind/desire/push has weakened and I'm fighting a mental change in food again.

I've had a large regain and tried Alli pills a few months ago. I had used them for a few months back before WLS when it was Xenical. After about a week of using the Alli I gave up, they did NOTHING for me. DH wanted to drop a few lbs so he started taking them. Well, they worked on him much to his dismay. lol All I can figure is due to our WLS the Alli pill isn't in our system long enough to be effective.
