Bariatric Advantage Suggestions??
I though I would ask you Grads since you have the most experience!
I recieved my date.. August 19th 2009 For Lap RNY Yay now down to business.. The vitamins. I have a very hard time already swallowing pills so I was doing a lot of research and stumbled across bariatric advantage.. Now I have a "suggestion" sheet as to which how much and what supplements need to be taken. But it has flinstone chewables on here.. which makes me think they are not telling me something.. Now iv read a lot of your posts and I DO NOT want to mess this up. Im 23 years old and have a long time of living in front me. What is your suggestion? Any specific package deals on bariatric advantage?? I see they have lozenges and chewables... I want to make sure I keep my D up, B-12, Iron, I am well aware of protein.. but any suggestions? Thank you so much for taking the time out to read this I appreciate all answers!!

There are a lot of post on main board and on RNY about vitamins. Check Andrea's post - she is our "guru" on vitamins. She has done extensive research.
Mostly - you get recommendation from your doc or nut.
And everyone is different.
My opinion? i chose to use vit that are formulated for a WLS person, including, but not limited to BA, Celebrate, and many others. On top of that - based on some symptoms I had and then blood results - I added some more vitamins.
It is important to choose vitamins that:
1. you can afford long term
2. taste good enough that you WILL take them
3. are hopefully what you need, on top of your regular food.
I got some samples from different companies and some of them I liked some I did not. Some - with sugar alcohol - gave me the horrible gas... others- were too much $$ and calories to consider. Others - were just the wrong type for me (made me nauseous).
Ideally - start with a general package - as recommend for the post op person. Multi, + calcium+ iron. Unless you know your B12 are low- you may chose not to take them. iron - too much - may cause more harm than good.
I personally added magnesium- since my other supplements had not enough and that left me constipated. So now i also take magnesium. (read on my profile).
Since you are still pre-op - do not buy too much. Your taste will change (most likely) and taking vitamins for the rest of your life - can be challenging if they taste like crap to you.
Get samples.
The good news- your taste will change- and then change again- so you will need to learn to adjust, and adjust the vitamins level.
Look up Andrea's post on vitamins - main board or RNY.
Flintstones were formulated for children. Normal children. You are neither a child nor you would have "normal" guts.
FYI: pills- can be used later on - but there is a string debate if our anatomy can dissolve a pill and use it - maybe we need chewable or liquids to absorb better.
