Bone Density issues

Hi
So I'm  2+ years out and had my yearly bone density scan.  Well in one year my numbers have gone down to -2.3  yea Osto I'm only 43.  My gyn is thinking that maybe I'm not absorbing my calcium.
So here is what I've got so far.
I take an adult chewable
B 12 complex (once a week)
A B vitamin with Folic acid daily
Calcium Citrate (1000mg)
Ferralet 90 Iron
Evista
I went to the vitamin store and have added
Vitamin D 3 4000IU ( to be taken every other day)
Also added  Strontium Bone Maker to help strengthen
Also a little more sunshine
They are also suggesting a product called green food to help with absorption.
So has anyone tried this?  Has anyone else had this problem, if so what did you do?  I just don't have anyone around there that has had the surgery so I'm at a loss.  And all of you are really a great help when needed.
Thanks
Paula

We do malabsorb calcium! It's not news.

Suggestion is 2400mg calc citrate these days. I personally take around 8000 mg and 50,000 dry D3 (not the Rx, which is D2).

OK, so D3. Probably more like 25,000 per day, but what is your D 25 level? PTH? calcium?

I've had several years to perfect my formula to get my numbers where I want them on labs, BUT I cannot reverse my bone loss. At least since 2000, my dexa has not moved much. I can't get ahead, but I can't reverse it, either.

I've taken 5 yrs of Actonel, and have now had a reclast infusion. I won't know the result of that til next April.

TWO multis, right?

B12 WEEKLY?
No A, E, K? Zinc? Magnesiums?

Thanks for the reply.  I do understand the malabsorption thing I went to the surgeon 6months ago with basket of pills in hand and he said all seemed good.

NO I have only been taking ONE multi a day.   So I'll go to two
This one does have the AK zinc and magnesium
I only do One b-12 a week because the blood work numbers were high
the b-12 b-6 and folic acid combo I do take daily.
The calcium.  I'll go ahead and try to get more down.
I do have a lab slip for the D count so we'll see how that comes out.
Just makes  you mad.  I've spent the last two years busting my ass to do this the right way and now my body doesn't want to play nice.
I was told that I may be able to improve some of the numbers.  So I'm hitting the weights and tring to stay positive.
Thanks again for all the insite.

You can only do what was known at the time. That's all. And what many of us know NOW, some docs still don't know. But back in the olden days, nobody knew it so there was no help for us!

You're taking the BA tropical? Good if it has K, not enough A, zinc or mag. Depends on what you want the mag to do, tho, how you'd supplement beyond your multi.

No such thing as high B12. Get copies, start your spreadsheet. You want B12 up around 2000 (where you were born) if you can ever get back up there.

The B12, b6, folic is a swallow? If so, you don't get the B12 from it, but do get the B6 and folic.

The D will be low, and the PTH will be high. If you've not been taking thousands of D3, they'll be backward. You have to tip the D up, which in turn will tip the PTH DOWN.

You cannot go wrong with advice from VitaLady.  I had a bone density test performed several years ago.  The tech said the computer pits the patient against a wide array of statistics on set of 30 year old women.  My results were higher than the set group, and I was 46 ish at the time.  I weight lift on a regular basis, and I work up to higher weights, as time progresses.  The doctor said he believed my great results were based on my adherence to taking my calcium and weight lifting.  You may want to consider doing some weight bearing exercises.  It couldn't hurt.  Good luck to you!

I am sorry you are having issues.  I am 31 and going for a bone scan on Tuesday because I'm having trouble with my teeth and joints and they are concerned about bone softening.  I will admit that i have been without supplements for the last year and realize I have really messed up.  I've started back up but feel like i can't possibly repair the damage.  I just had a ton of bloodwork done and found that I'm B12 defficiant and iron defficiant.  I also am waiting to hear about the D but my calcium was ok.  I don't take calcium on a regular basis either and I've started that up as well.

I find all of this very scary and a huge motivation to get my vitamins in.  Good luck--will be thinking of you!

Remember...take one day at a time!
