what sort of diet guidelines should i follow now??
i am almost 3 years out, and after reaching my goal weight, i recently gained 10 pounds. i had been basically following a carb-free diet ever since i had my surgery, but in the last 3 months i started to cheat, and hence the weight gain.
Just wondering if my best bet for losing the weight now is to go back to eating carb-free or not.
Any suggestions on what has worked in the long-run for you graduates out there??
Thanks !
Evelyn

Protein first.
No drinking fluids with meals. Wait 30 minutes at least.
Not no carbs but good carbs like veggies and fruits. White carbs are evil.
Those are the food rules. I journal and measure my foods, park as far away from stores as possible, don'****ch as much television.
Take your vitamins religiously and have your labs done each and every year or even more often.
Anything else escapes me just now. Someone else?

Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

My genious self quit tracking my foods for 1 stinkin' week and GAINED EIGHT POUNDS. How in the holy heck does that happen?!
*sigh* I'm frustrated, but not defeated. Jillian Michaels (or however you spell it) kicked my heiney in a 20 minute workout that two years ago would have been a piece of cake.
It happens when we quit figuring out what portion sizes are...Myself, if I eat until I'm full I can eat two servings of ANYTHING...I just eat and eat and the pouch just enlarges. That's why portion control is so important.

Portion sizes as well as slowing down! I remember my surgeon's office saying to put the fork down between bites, don't eat in front of the TV, and each bite should take 1 minute. I'm going back to that. I need to give my brain time to realzie I'm no longer hungry. I used to also eat until I wasn't hungry, not until I'm full. I would eat till I was full when I was big, and am doing that again. This ends NOW!
And I just was reminded of this today: Don't underestimate the power of soup...I ate clam chowder before they brought me my chicken breast today for lunch and it filled me up so much, I couldn't eat the whole chicken breast...darn it. the chicken was better protein than the chowder...more carbs, less protein...next time I will learn, I hope.
