I am considering lap band.  On that forum, there are mostly newbies.  I would like to hear from graduates/long term to hear success stories.

Thanks so much for any advise you can offer!

Some people might not support my WLS decision.
Those people remind me of slinkys. Not good for much but it would would bring a smile to my face if someone pushed them down the stairs.

Hello.

I had my lap-band surgery 3/6/07 and have not regretted it at all. For me it made the most sense and was the least invasive. My weight loss has been very slow but steady. I am now 57 years old and only need to lose 5-7 pounds more according to my WLS. I also find that I have at least 20 pounds or more according to him of excess skin. I now teach Aqua Zumba and Zumba Gold classes at 2 different YMCAs and if anyone had suggested that I would be doing that now 3 years ago, I would have thought them daft!

I had my WLS over 3 years ago and have lost slowly but steadily since then. I started at 245 and am now between 150 and 155--planning to get to 130.

I haven't had any problems with my band and have never needed an unfill, but I've been pretty careful with my fills, always getting tiny tweaks whenever I needed a little help.

I chose the band because I didn't want my stomach or intestines cut. I also liked that the band would help me feel full with smaller amounts of food. I had dieted for years and was able to lose, but I always felt hungry. My band helps me feel satisfied with a small amount of food. I still have to make good choices about my foods, and I have to exercise regularly to continue to lose weight.

I feel wonderful, and I love my band.

Good luck with your decision!

Kathy
