Need Graduate advice on best food processor post op
I'm almost 5 years post-op Lapband and I didn't need to use a food processor at all. For the "full liquid" stage and "soft foods" I was able to get by with other things.
During the "full liquids" stage I made smoothies in the blender with a frozen banana, skim milk, and a sugar free carnation instant breakfast. This is a great basic recipe because you can use any flavor of the CIB and any frozen fruit you want so you can experience variety and not get bored. Between the milk and the CIB you get plenty of protein, calcium, etc. I found the protein drinks like Unjury etc. were too strong for me and gave me headches. I never liked them. Also, I prefer to stick to "whole foods" as much as possible.
During the "soft foods" stage I ate a lot of yogurt, (lowfat or nonfat gree yogurt has as much as 17 grams of protein per serving) cottage cheese, soft scrambled eggs, turkey chili that was crushed with a potato masher, low-fat refried beans, pureed vegetable soup like tomato, carrot, broccoli, mushroom, etc., oatmeal... you get the idea.
Then once you are back on solid food you very much do NOT want to use a food processor. At this point you want to eat foods that are really solid. Remember, those soft foods will slip through the band so once your stomach is healed, so if you eat too much of them you will be able to eat more than you should.
Once you are back on sold food you will need to eat whole foods like grilled or broiled chicken, shrimp, lean pork chops etc. for your 4 oz of protein and whole vegetables like salad or steamed carrots etc. for you 1/2 cup of vegetables and then whole grains like brown rice for your 1/4 cup whole grain. This is the "typical bandster meal" that I was taught to have. After a year on this food plan I lost 90 pounds so I know that it works!
All in all I'd say don't worry about buying a food processor. Save your money for the new clothes you are going to need in a few months!
Hope this helps,
Elizabeth
