Where is the writing?
For a writer's board, there isn't much writing that goes on here. Can we get this started, or can someone refer me to an active writers board? Until then, I have an assignement. I'm investigating beginnings. What is your favorite first line?
I have many, but here is one I found this morning.
"I lost an arm on my last trip home. My left arm." Octavia E. Butler, _Kindred_
How frank is that for you? And it really makes me wonder what else she has lost or found. Of course I know because I have read the book.
Here's another:
"My sharpest memory is of a single instant surrounded by dark." Mary Karr, _The Liar's Club_
Jeanna
Hi Jeanna,
My favorite all time first line is this; (and I apologize I can't remember the book, I do remember that the book did not live up to the opening sentance):
"The last camel died at noon."
You're right about how dead the board seems. It's too bad. I will have to check out the too books you just shared, those are great openings.
Thanks
Di
