What might help you is to volunteer at a school that works with autistic children. This will give you excellent insight into what it's like for someone who is autistic. Randi

There's a Yahoo group called biw -- book in a week -- it gets everybody writing as much as they can everyday for 7 days and each day you post the # of pages you've done -- not the actual pages. It goes the first week of every month and I have really had a lot of writing success with it. You don't really write a book in a week -- but you can get down a great headstart on a first draft. Write a query letter telling a little about yourself and why you think your book will sell...then enclose a few pages from your book ..if they are interested they will request the whole thing...I did this ... and then did what they call a poor man's copyright..this is where u mail your book to your self and when u reeive it do not open it ..place it in a safe place ...then I got names and addresses of about 20 publishers and started mailing them..havent gotten any response but its just been a short time Im still hoping and praying someone will like it.

Sandi I would advise u to first get a copyright...if u cant afford to go the regular route u can file what they call a poorman's copyright...all you do is put your novel in an envelope address it to yourself have them stamp the the date on the back where the envelope seals..when u receive it put it in a safe place and do not open it....You need to get names and addresses of publisers..u need a short letter of introduction telling a little about yourself and what your book is about...you dont want to send your whole novel just pick out a few pages of what u consider your best work and mail into several publishers and say a lot of prayers....

Topic: Problems with WLS ? Plz share your story
Hi, I am a 51 yr old female who had the roux n y done May 18, 2004...It has been a total nightmare for me and I know there has to be others out there that have had problems too. Most all you read is positive and happy endings and I thank God for these but I think the other side needs to be told... I am an aspiring children's author but have decided to take the time to write a book on the downfalls of WLS, not to scare anyone but to inform them that it doesn't always turn out as you thought it would. If you have had trouble and would like to share your story with me please email me @[email protected] congratulations to all of u with successful stories. Profile updated a little will post more when feeling better

HI Melissa! I would say to frequent the boards and chats at: http://www.write4kids.com and http://www.verlakay.com They also list links and all kinds of great things for children's writers. Also there are cheap classes at universalclass.com on writing for children -- by cheap I mean under $30! I always buy the yearly copy of Children's Writer's and Illustrator's Market. And I am a member of SCBWI -- the Society of Children's Writers and Illustrators. http://www.scbwi.org With these hints and tips from all these sites -- you're on your way! Sheryl

Hello, Sheryl! I have recently written a couple of little stories for children. None of them are at the publishing stage yet. Any advice for a newfound writer?

I'm a little ashamed to admit this but currently I am writing a fan fiction. It's from Jane Austen's "Pride & Prejudice" and the periods before and sfter the book, only it is written by Kitty. It's very interesting, although I think Kitty is going places Jane did not intent her to go to, LOL!!
