Topic: RE: This board is dead!!!!
(Ha! "Deader than a doornail"! Always one of my mother's favorite sayings, I'm suddenly transported back to my young childhood as I recall pondering the significance and apparent lifelessness of door nails. ) Anyway, I just now happened on this site, excited at the prospects of meeting other writers and found it to be near comatose. Bumnmer. I assume, Trisha, you are a writer. As for me, I'm accomplished at composing serious correspondence (legal, official, etc. genre) but my true love is creative and poetic ... not the fluffy sort, however. My work is gritty and metaphorical, not the sing-song kind that folks often associate with poems. So what is your style? Looking forward to hearing from you and others. Maybe we can breathe some life into this site. (Time and opportunity permitting!) Take care! Sandi (Maxi is my board name)

Topic: RE: I have a complaint about AMOS
I discovered that too a couple months ago when I had my first and last name on here, so just took out my last name. We are on the www so anything here will be searchable online. Profile pages, message posts, etc. are all searchable through google, yahoo, msn, etc. I hope you don't leave AMOS. Just don't put anything online here that you wouldn't mind others reading about.

Topic: RE: ObesityHelp Magazine is waiting for you!
Hi Eric, Someone from Obesity Help was looking for volunteer content writers sometime back and I emailed her and offered my services as a writer. Unfortunately I have never gotten a reply to that. Can you use a good volunteer writer? While I'm a lawyer by trade, I enjoy writing in general and I'm a pretty fair writer. I work with an online support group in NC that facilitates getting info to folks in NC about support group meetings, sources of info (like ObesityHelp.com! ), and help them to connect with others around the state. If you have someone that I can work with at Obesity Help to do some writing for you, I'd be happy to work with them. Thanks very much! Donna Earley

Topic: Stuck Mid-Novel
I am writing a murder mystery about a Notre Dame professor whose wife goes missing and foul play is suspected for a number of reasons, i.e., he has a girlfriend, a large life insurance policy on the wife, and his behavior toward her has been abusive. He quickly becomes the number one suspect. However, there is a key witness to what happened on the day she disappeared--an autistic eleven-year-old boy who is unable to communicate what he saw. My problem, despite the research I've done, is in making the boy realistic as an autistic child. I guess what I need to know is how he would act in his daily life. Any ideas? Thanks! Ellen

Topic: RE: I'm writing a novel
Cathy, Congratulations on writing your novel, but may I ask "why 8 weeks?" That's awfully ambitious! I have been working on the same novel for a year and a half. Of course, if I were more disciplined I could maybe fini**** in 8 months, but never 8 weeks! I applaud your drive and self-discipline. As to the question of how to get published, it is best to find an agent first. You can get books listing agents from the book store or library. DO NOT send your book to ANYONE who will charge you money to read it! Also, be sure you have a completed manuscript before you start shopping for an agent or a publisher. If you send them sample chapters and they are interested, they will want to see the whole thing right away--be prepared. The 2005 edition of The Writers' Market is a good place to start. It gives all the publishers' guidelines. Good luck to both of you!

Hi there. Check out a book called "Writer's Market--2004" I believe that is the correct title...I loaned mine out so I don't have it in front of me for the exact title. It is a fabulous guide, well organized and FULL of information. It is published yearly, and is expensive so you may want to check it out at the library. It lists markets for periodicals, books, contests, as well as info on getting an agent (or not!) and things like that. Best of luck to you! Peace, Suz

Dawn, I just posted a question...you might be a good person to ask. repost: Hi, everybody!! Whenever my roommate/family and I want to do something, but don't know who to turn to, we all say "...do we know anyone who...?" So, now I'm turning to you--because I KNOW someone knows. Let's just say you were writing something that you want to get published. Who would you turn to? How do you get something published/looked at?? Thank you, in advance, for your input. Sandi
