Hungry or is it head hunger? How to know the difference…
I have an audit at work tomorrow – and I am really stressed out… I have been all last week and the weekend. On Saturday I was hungry all the time – and ate all the time, mostly snacking – since when I stressed – very little food fills me up. So it felt like I was eating ALL the time. And I was. Good food – but still. Sunday – was a bit better. I bought baked chicken and the dry chicken really stuffed me up.
Today I am supper stressed and I want to eat. I made my protein shake with greens – but I do not want that… hmmm. I ate some nuts. They were great. but I still felt hungry… That made me think. So for lunch I fixed a plate of chicken with cucumbers. A lot of chicken. As you can expect after a “normal" WLS portion of the chicken I was stuffed, with a lot of chicken left on the plate. So I left it on my desk – planning to eat as a second lunch once I get hungry again. Except – when I got hungry – 2 hrs after my lunch – I was not hungry for the chicken. I wanted something else. Nuts, or protein ice cream, or yogurt with proteins + fruits… which means that I am not really hungry.
So I made a pact with myself – after I eat all the chicken from the plate –I can have other foods. Suddenly I am not hungry anymore.
Eventually I will eat the chicken, when I get really hungry. And maybe in evening I can have my lovely yogurt with protein powder and fruits… my dessert. Until then – chicken is waiting… And let’s not forget the already made protein shake with greens. That will have to be consumed before the dessert. (it is in a thermos – with ice.)
And that ladies and gentlemen – is the difference between real hunger and a head hunger – at least for me.

This is the only "greens" that I can take all the time without getting sick.
I started using 1 tsp, now I add 1-2 tbs to a large shake (24 oz). I usually do that 4-5 times a week.
I use 8 oz of water, add 2 Tbs of a good whey protein ( at least 1 scoop whey isolate and 1 scoop whey concentrate - when i am low on the great tasting isolate.. ), add 1/2 cup blueberries (frozen) and 2 Tbs of the supperfood. Blend. looks like a mud - but it taste great to me. (most days) Then add ice - and put that in my thermos and drink over 15 min or 1 hr.. (depends how hungry I am... lol) The trick for me is to blend the frozen blueberries with little of water and the superfood first - then add more water and the protein powder and blend little more - just enough to incorporate the proteins.. - I hate foam.

My basic - "3 min protein ice cream" fix
I use a Magic Bullet - but any personal small blender - strong enough - will work:
In the small 8 oz blender cup get 3 oz of water( you can use milk) + 1 (large) scoop of protein powder - put a blade on and just blend it so there are no powder - unscrew the blade - fill the cup with frozen fruits of your choice (blueberries or strawberries or pieces of frozen mango, or peaches, etc) force on the blade ( - since the cup is full by now - lol) and screw it very good. Blend the frozen fruit with the mixed protein powder- make sure all the fruit is blended - unscrew the blade - and you have a soft fruity ice cream... Using less or more of water - fruits - will change the consistency of the mix. If you want harder "ice cream" - put it in the freezer for 30-60 min... so yummy... and good for you. Sometimes I add yogurt - but then I also add more stevia (I do not use splenda anymore).
I tried the bigger blender - but then i had to crape the sides.. and then have a hard time to get my "ice cream" out ... the small cup - is perfect for me..If I want a pure protein ice cream - then i mix my protein shake and put it in a cube tray in the freezer the day before (small cubes) then add the cubes and some water + protein powder for more - protein flavor ice cream...

But that takes 30 min... lol.. and sometimes I just want my ice cream ... like in 3 min.
My "ice cream" typically have 180 cal, 30-35 gr of protein per 8 oz... (I use the prot isolate and the rest of calories are from a cup of berries...typically 50 cal per cup ) If this is a meal for me - i use 1 oz of whole milk or 1/2-1/2 as some of my base to get the fat - or add some nuts to my "ice cream" after is ready... This is "instead" of protein shake.
