March 2011 Sleevers
A delicate problem,
It was the 5th or 6th day after surgery for me. BUT, they started me on a stool softener at 3 days post op. I've since stopped taking it because now I can't stop
Colace is what they gave me to get going - if you want to look into it for yourself.
And, the gas that comes with it....oh geez. Because I finally understand the "never trust a fart" thing, I always end up running to the toilet. Sometimes, even though it's just gas, it's enough gas to blow my house off it's foundation.
I really need it to stop!

For me, I had a bowel movement the morning after surgery. It was weird since I hadn't had anything to eat for 3 days.
TMI warning: For the whole next week after that, I had really fatty diarrhea. Then normal (but small) bowel movement once a day. Now I'm back to the fatty diarrhea. I had/have IBS, so pre-surgery I used to have 6-10 bowel movements per day. It's kinda weird to only have 1 every day/every other day now.
The thing is...you're not really putting enough food in your body to create a lot of waste. So unless you actually feel pressure like you need to go, but can't, then you're not really constipated. You just haven't created enough poop yet!
