Liz, what an utterly charming place to stay! We don't have much in the way of that kind of early American charm here on the west coast.
204 this morning. Did not make me happy - especially since I did great job watching my intake yesterday. Wonder if it is because of my leg workout yesterday. Could be.... Anyhow, on to happier items.
My mantra yesterday was RETIREMENT IS HIGHLY UNDERRATED! I don't know what it was about the day, but I was constantly struck by the delight of my cir****tances. I drove past the nearby middle school. It appeared to be an early dismissal day (on a Tuesday?!?!?). I appreciated being out and about on during school hours. Last night I made a return for an online purchase and I was struck that I was unconcerned with being out on a "school night". But the biggest deal was getting stuff done with the freedom to schedule pretty much how I wanted to schedule and then have that schedule become flexible as needed throughout the day. I found myself feeling so grateful and upbeat about retired life. I'm not sure I anticipated the sense of freedom and accompanying joy that brings me. I like it!
I think I have a bug! I feel absolutely fine, but my is thick and husky today. Started last night. ![]()
I think I have to take half a gummy!!!! LOL! I woke up to pee around 5 am and I believe I was kind of "High". I felt a little dizzy or light headed. Then instead of getting up around 7:30, I felt groggy and stayed in bed until 8:30!!!!! Well, at least I got plenty of sleep! Maybe it's more related to the bug living in my throat... Who knows....
Lots to do today, so off I go!
That looks really inviting Liz! And that lobster roll is huge! Enjoy your hike.
I woke up around 7:30am but have been lollygagging about, enjoying the view and reading while I waited for DH to wake up. Enjoying the dolce far niente: Italian for sweetness of doing nothing. The tide is out this morning and it changes the landscape so much! I believe I read that the tide changes more dramatically the farther up north you are.
I think it will be coolish today, and a bit overcast. We will probably poke around shops a bit, and then who knows what. Tomorrow we have concert tickets for an Irish music trio.
This town is SO much quieter than summer when we visited before. Pretty much just us retired types in the resturants and coffee shops. It will be interesting to see if it picks up tomorrow or Friday. It's always been quiet at night, there aren't really any bars or places to hang out after 9pm, but generally bustling in the day.
When I woke up this morning to a water view, in a comfy bed with DH sleeping next to me on a September morning, I had to pinch myself. Is this real life? yes it is. : )
Still no weight while away but reasonable eating yesterday. DH and I shared a phenomenal lobster roll for lunch and I didn't eat much at dinner. I had half a personal size bag of chips and 3 bites of blueberry pie. Without the tirzepatide I wouldn't have been able to stop but I enjoyed the treats and was satisfied.
Lunch yesterday was at a great outdoor restaurant in Boothbay Harbor. I think the lobster roll had at least 2 full lobsters in it. We took the coastal route the rest of the way north to Bar Harbor thinking it would be prettier but we barely saw the water because of the tall Maine trees. It added an hour and was mostly a boring drive except when in cute little towns where we kept hitting red lights. Note for future trips here - take the direct route.
We are at the same Inn, in the same room we had 3 years ago - "Jack's Room". Beautiful room with a private section of the wrap around porch. It is just about half a block behind where the restaurants are so very quiet but super convenient. We are drinking coffee in our room right now but will go get some breakfast in the common room shortly. We plan to hike in the middle part of the day. We picked our trail but have to figure out how to get to it. Looks like a beautiful sunny day just as it was yesterday.
Have a whopping Wednesday! (LOL - I just looked back at yesterday and I signed off as if it was also Wednesday - oh well)

Darn garage!
DS called me yesterday about the Apple event because I was commenting that my iPad is slowing down a lot (it is 6 years old). He said in about a month I should be able to buy the generation one lower for less money. Oops - I just checked and that announcement did not include the iPad which isn't supposed to be upgraded until spring 2026. Hmmm...Since I use my iPad in place of a laptop I don't want it to get too far out of date and drive me crazy.

I do find the traveling like it is your job (great description) trips are the most exhausting ones. DH and I were commenting last night that we relax the most on the trips where we park the car and barely move it while we are there (which is the case in Bar Harbor except to drive to the National park to hike today).

It's my neck and lower face starting to bother me too - it's been almost 9 years since I had it done.

I wouldn't travel for pleasure or very far away so soon after surgery. We have already decided that my health takes precedence and if there are any concerns DH will go solo and FaceTime me. The plan is to only go for 5 days and thankfully it is a direct flight.
It is a very major surgery and my PS has told me there are usually complications in healing the thigh wounds. They eventually do heal but it can be long haul. Praying mine won't have complications. I'm doing everything on my end to help prevent it!
Greetings all
Rain has stopped but it is cloudy. All good. I started the game with scrabble and won one but lost two, including the Shark. I see to be getting worse. But I was gifted a bag of home grown graventstein apples which are perfect. I took some to the studio for the hungry artists. Got some glazing done and I am now enjoying an apple with peanut butter.
Welcome back to USA DD. Sounds like you have more fun coming. Agree with Peps and Liz - niceness comes back to you if you treat people kindly. More people need to learn this. Sometimes I think people in foreign countries are surprised if Americans are un-ugly.
Lobster rolls!! What a treat. Eat one for me. I don't understand why we have crab here but no lobster.
Yay new furniture Liz. Always nice. Glad you are through the funeral which must have been hard. Seems like Catholic funerals are big on family participation but whatever works. And glad Mike had a nice birthday. Good pic.
Yeah CC yoo hoo!
Peps I agree it is sweet to hear your dad excited about the phone and that he seems content. So cute that he had a hot date. Congrats on all the show wins! you really cleaned house at that show.
We binge watched the rest of Wednesday last night. Pretty good. DH was in 7th heaven today as Apple had its new product event. But so far he does not want a new iPhone. Good thing becuase the new garage door and opener will be 3K. Poop.
The final frontier of quiche tonight.
