LESLIE~~ Only you can put yourself back on track, but the first thing is to acknowledge that you need to change some bad habits.... And remember that you are HUMAN.... and unfortunately, they did not do surgery on your brain - just your tummy... and some people will fight the "food demons" forever (and I feel like I am one of those) Concentrate on the things that you have control over - you have control over what you chose to eat tomorrow, you have control over what exercise you get... just do your best to follow the 4 rules - Protein First, Water, Exercise and No Snacking... and don't beat yourself up too much- You can do this!

Hi Leslie, remember that the larger the clothing size, the longer it takes to drop down to the next one. If it wasn't like that, I would probably have been in a 60 instead of a 28! Good luck!

Leslie, you are doing fine, Don't stress yourself. Keep doing what your doing and enjoy your wl journey. Hide the scale and have fun. This is the only way I deal with my journey. My wls 12/6/02 loss 86 lbs and have more to go. Hang in there. hugs

Leslie, Not to worry! I am in my third week of my third plateau. I am 3 1/2 months out. I have set up a pattern of sitting at the same weight for three to four weeks and then dropping 10 pounds in a few days. I have averaged 20 pounds per month so I can't squack too much. Please don't lose heart. You WILL lose the weight. Just continue to do the right things. I still need to get my butt in gear and exercise more...but I am still losing anyway...probably would be more if I exercised more. Good luck, Pam

Leslie~I know how you feel, hon!! I hit a plateau that lasted 5 weeks and another one that lasted 3 weeks.....and I'm only 14 weeks out!! But in between I'm doing just great and just learned to "ride them out". Drink, move, stay busy, support groups, protein, drink some more!! It will come off.....just keep acting and eating like you're losing, and at last, you WILL!! For some of us, this is disapointingly, an exercise in patience! HUGS! Carol Percel

Leslie, This delayed post-op plateau is NORMAL! It is your body's backlash to the drastic change in caloric intake. Focus on your water, and watch your body change. You WILL be losing inches during the plateau, even though the scale isn't budging yet. I've been reading the board consistently for two years and no one has stopped losing after three weeks! Your body is still in the recovery stage and will be for the next several weeks or so. So find some non-food comfort for just yourself and focus on establishing good eating habits. Keep looking at the big picture! Enjoy your unique journey!

Hi Leslie, I went through the same scenario when I had my surgery on Dec. 4. Thought sure I was the one who would fail at this. But after about 3 weeks the scales starting going down. At this time I have lost about 55 lbs, so just keep doing what you are supposed to do and you will be fine. Good luck and God Bless. Lois

hi leslie, i had mine january 16th..and just finished a 3 week plateau..i know how you feel... i lost 35 lbs the 1st month, then nothing for the following time... i have now gotten the scale to move ssslllooowwwlllyyy... but my dr.'s office told me to up my water intake and make sure and exercise.. i am hoping by doubling my water to 64 oz per day,it will start to move fast again.. it will start for you too... maybe don't weigh until your next dr. visit..i know it's hard..maybe too tempting... i will pray that the scale starts to move for you again real soon... have you noticed a different feel in your clothes??how much wl for you?? i felt better when i went to the library on this site and looked up plateaus..i saw it is common at this stage... best of luck to you leslie... have a nice night.. jeanne/ca..:>

Leslie, in reply to your plateau concerns, even though I haven't had surgery yet, I've noticed that people that drink all of their water, and keep their protein very high do the best at licking plateaus. If things don't change soon, you may have to think about the surgery itself. For example, was your stomach only stapled, or was the pouch completely transected from the main stomach during the stapling? If it was not completely separated it may have developed a tunnel, of sorts, from the pouch to the "old" stomach, and your food may be going into it. One sign of that would be a larger than expected appetite so early on after your WLS. Another thing to be careful of, is drinking during or too soon before or after your meals. Don't drink thirty (30) minutes before or one (1) hour after your meals. This is to ensure that you stay full for a considerable time and that you don't overeat, causing the dreaded plateau. If this plateau continues and you know that you are doing everything as you should, please discuss this with your PCP and your surgeon. It may help to keep a diary just in case you have one of those doctors who will blame you for the surgery not working even though you are behaving just as you should. As time progresses, if there is no change, you may want to get CT scan or x-ray to make sure that the surgery was actually done. In a very small portion of patients this has actually been a problem. Not to cause you to doubt your surgeon; I'm sure that you did your research and found one that was most capable. I simply include this information as one more thing that may cause plateaus. Now, after all of this has been said, Leslie, please don't worry unduly. Plateaus are very common--ask everyone--and since all people have different makeups, we can never expect to progress in exactly the same manner as our peers, OK? Keep up the good work, Leslie, and you should be fine.~~~~~Phyllis Moore~~March 7,2003~~~~~~~~~~(Hoping to have surgery.)

LESLIE~~ I was on a 5 week plateau about a month post-op.... You will NOT fail. HANG IN THERE..So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they seem improbable, and then, when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable
