I saw Jeanese this morning and she looks pretty good. :-) She said that yesterday was very hard, lots of pain, but that it's getting better. The tear of her spleen will heal, but Dr. Weber wanted her to wait to start walking after the surgery for a while because of it. The morphine is really helping and the NG tube is not bothering her as much as the abdominal pain. Also, the leg inflator cuffs are driving her nuts, she says they're very hot and itchy. While I was there, a nurse came in and said "Oh, there's a cooling function on these, let me turn that on for you". I wasn't able to stay around long enough to find out if that helps with the leg cuffs, but I hope so.
While I was there, Jeanese and I took her second of 6-8 walks today. She did really well, making a whole circuit of the fourth floor rooms. And she's gotten better at getting in and out of the bed so it's not so painful.
Tomorrow, she gets the NG tube out and I'm sure she'll find that she's more comfortable then. She might also lose the catheter, which will also be a comfort improvement. Tomorrow she'll be able to have liquid that she swallows (and I'm sure that will feel better than swabbing her mouth with ice water!)
Thanks for all your well-wishes... keep 'em coming! I'm planning on visiting her each day this week and I will continue to communicate them to her.
By the way, they moved her from room 408 to room 417 during the day yesterday.
