hang in there Debbie. I too had an infection in my incision and they had to open all but 2inches of my stitches up. This left me open so deep that my doctors hand would disapear from his knuckles down. Its a pain to have to deal with every day, but THE GOOD NEWS is you have caught this early and therefore it is not life threating. Yes this does slow you down as far as complete recovery, but you will be amazed at how you can live early post op normal with this open place in you. It will not slow down your weight loss and you can continue to walk with no probs. Even tho it is tramatic to us who this has happened ( I cried when they re-admitted me ) We are strong and adapt. Keep positive and get all your nutrients in and you will heal so fast Good luck Debbie

DEBBIE IS STILL IN THE HOSPITAL AND HAS A WOUND INFECTION NOW. THEY REMOVED SOME OF THE STITCHES TO LET THE INFECTION DRAIN SO WILL HAVE AN OPEN INCISION WHICH WILL HEAL FROM THE INSIDE OUT. THIS IS NOT A SERIOUS COMPLICATION BUT CERTAINLY UNPLEASANT AND SLOWS DOWN HER RECOVERY. IT WILL REQUIRE FREQUENT DRESSING CHANGES FOR ABOUT A MONTH. SHE IS FEELING MUCH BETTER AND GETTING AROUND INDEPENDENTLY. SOME DIARRHEA FROM THE ANTIBIOTICS. THEY PUT A DRAINAGE TUBE INTO THE OLD STOMACH TO DRAIN IT AND WILL GO HOME WITH THAT IN PLACE. APPARENTLY THE SURGEONS ARE BEGINNING TO DO THIS FOR ALL OPEN RNY'S. i'M NOT SURE WHAT THE PRINCIPLE BEHIND IT IS, BUT THEY BELIEVE IT HELPS WITH RECOVERY.

Dear Debbie and Family!!!!! I am so happy to hear the great news. We don't know why some of us have rougher journeys to get to our goal of a healthier life but some do. It does however reinforce our faith in God that He is good and does ansewr parayers. Not however without hard work on your part. I am very proud of you fighting to regain the strength to heal. Keep up the hard work. I ask for God's blessings upon you now and always!!! PEACE

GOOD NEWS! WE ARE THANKING THE LORD. DEBBIE IS OFF THE VENT AND RECOVERING NICELY IN A REGULAR SURGICAL ROOM. SHE HAS TUBES COMING OUT EVERYWHERE AND A DRAINING INCISION BUT NOTHING SERIOUS NOW. SHE GAINED 35# OF FLUID FROM THE DECREASE IN KIDNEY FUNCTION BUT THEY ARE WORKING NOW AND PUTTING OUT NORMAL QUANTITIES OF URINE. SHE PASSED HER "3RD" LEAK TEST TODAY AND IS BEGINNING SIPS OF WATER. THE DOCTOR TOLD HER SHE CAN GO HOME IN A COUPLE OF DAYS IF ALL CONTINUES TO GO WELL. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR NOTES AND PRAYERS. WHEN YOU SEE SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN IT SHOULD MAKE YOU CONSIDER WHO YOU HAVE FOR A SURGEON AND HOW MANY HE HAS DONE. IF SHE HADN'T HAD SUCH AN ATTENTIVE EXPERIENCED SURGEON, THINGS COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH DIFFERENT. I SEE MANY DOCTORS BEGINNING TO DO THIS SURGERY WITHOUT ADEQUATE SUPPORT FOR THE PATIENTS AND WWELL TRAINED NURSING STAFF AND THAT CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS. THIS SURGERY ISN'T WITHOUT SERIOUS RISKS BUT THEY CAN BE MINIMIZED WITH THE RIGHT DOCTOR AND HOSPITAL. DON'T JUST TAKE THE FIRST PERSON WHO WILL GIVE YOU A DATE. aSK LOTS OF QUESTIONS ABOUT EXPERIENCE AND FOLLOWUP.

How frustrating to be experiencing so many setbacks. I pray that God will give your doctors wisdom in discerning exactly what is wrong and help them to fix it quickly. I also pray that you will be feeling better soon. Hang in there! Blessings to you and your family!

I JUST CAME FROM SEEING DEBBIE IN THE HOSPITAL. SHE IS IN ICU ON A VENTILATOR. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT EVEN THOUGHT THEY HAD TO OPEN HER UP TO STOP THE BLEEDING, SHE IS NOW APPARENTLY STABLE AND THEY ARE GOING TO TRY TO WEAN HER OFF THE VENT LATER TODAY. HER COLOR IS GOOD AND SHE KNEW WE WERE THERE EVEN THOUGH SHE DIDN'T RESPOND MUCH. WE ARE FEELING VERY HOPEFUL NOW AS IS THE DOCTOR WHO HAS BEEN WONDERFUL. sHE DIDN'T HAVE TH USUAL SIGNS OF BLEEDING LIKE PULSE AND BLOOD PRESSURE DROP OR CHANGES IN BLOOD WORK. dOCTOR JUST KNEW FROM THE WAY SHE WASN'T RECOVERING AND HAVING EXCESSIVE SHOULDER PAIN THAT SOMETHING WASN'T RIGHT. WE ARE SO GLAD HE WAS PAYING SUCH CLOSE ATTENTION. SHE HAS HAD WONDERFUL CARE IN THE HOSPITAL. KEEP UP THE PRAYERS! SHE ISN'T COMPLETELY OUT OF THE WOODS YET.
