21 years post-op
Jan 28, 2022
It has been almost 21 years since I had my surgery (roux n-y). I have had ups and downs, but am still down just over 100 lbs from my pre-op weight. I have chronic anemia, for which I have occasional iron infusions.
All in all, I have to say that the surgery has been a success. I lost 1/3 of my total weight, though I'd like to get to 1/2! Still working on it. What is amazing, is that the surgery is still working. I still have to be careful of what I eat, I still have some things I can't eat, such as milk products.
This type of surgery is not for everyone, but I feel I have been very successful with it, as has my husband, who would not still be alive (I believe) had he not had the surgery. Am I in perfect health and physical fit? No. However, I am more mobile than I would have been at 100+ pounds in addtion to my current weight. I am still doing my own walking, driving, shopping (when covid dies down), etc. But am I the same age? No, I'm now at retirement age and am able to enjoy it!
