I've been reading and researching what kinds of things I will need after my surgery. There is a lot of information out there and it can be very confusing. If you have the opportunity to try the different proteins, I would recommend that you do. I didn't have that opportunity as I had only a week to between getting my instructions from my Dr., to the date of my surgery. So, I ordered the protein starter sample pack and two of the Arista Gourmet SF Syrups from BariatricEating.com and I ordered the UnJury travel packs to try (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry sorbet, chicken soup and unflavored). It's not the ideal time to find my favorites, but at least it starts me off with a lot of different flavors and choices. I know there are more out there, but this will have to do for now. I will order some other samples after my surgery.Where my diet the first week home from the hospital will be liquids, I picked up a variety of flavors of Sugar Free Jello and some low-fat broths - chicken, beef and vegetable flavors.
I know I'm supposed to "try" and drink 64oz of water each day, so I also got a few cases of bottled water in the smaller, 12oz size to help me keep count, so to speak. Oh, ok, I didn't get the water - my sister Diane got it for me. She has been kind enough to let me stay at her house after my surgery for the first week, and has been kind enough to do some of my shopping - she is a sweetheart
. I decided to stay at her house, because it's closer to the hospital, her house is much larger than my small apartment, so I would actually be able to walk around, inside of her house and it will just be easier all around for my husband, Steve and me.
Unfortunately, he couldn't get the time off from work on the day of my surgery, and to tell the truth, I would rather he not be there because he hates hospitals and gets very nervous - I don't want that to transfer to me (lol)! He's my sweety and I know he's worries
about me. The good news is that he was able to get the day after my surgery and the following week off to help take care of me! Yeah!
