hi Shelley: I chew my food about 30 times per bite. I have never heard that you have to chew for 2 hours. It takes me about 30 min to eat about 1 cup of food. I am 45 years old and had Open Rny 6 months ago on July 22, 2002. I weighed 516 lbs. in Feb. last year. I now weigh 360 and have lost 6 cloathing sizes so far since my surgery. I am able to put on my shoes and socks now for the first time in 10 years or so. I feel great about my progress. I wanted to reasure you that if you chew 30 times each bite you will do just fine.I can eat chicken breast, turkey, or hamberger, or sausage. I can eat all veg. and fruits except citrius fruits. I can use lemon or lime juice in my drinks.I drink crystal light and water for my fluids. I can eat nuts and some chocolate. I am having trouble with fats and spicy foods. Other wise I am doing great. I would be happy to write you if you would like me too. just write me and let me know. [email protected]. Sheryl OPEN RNY July 22, 2002 516/453/360/160

Shelley, You don't have to take 2 hrs to eat. You do need to chew your food well 20-30 times each bite. You need to eat slowly. I can only tell you about my experience and I am done in about 30 min. however I am only able to eat about 4-5 bites of food. I am only 6wks out and getting ready to face the same delima at work however I can take 45mins. I hope this answers your question. Tamara
