My Surgeon's Comments RE: DS vs. RNY

My surgeon was part of the medical research team involved in the endorsement of RNY by NIH in 1991. I recently sent him some articles regarding DS and asked for his comments. He kindly sent me a five page article with the following handwritten comment: "The "duodenal switch" operation is more extreme than gastric bypass, often done to accomplish greater weight loss, but carries greater risk of morbidity postoperative. These pages, which are comparitive among procedures, are part of the American Society of Bariatric Surgery brochure on obesity surgery that several of us prepared and will be published by summer." I appreciate everyone's input regarding the DS. We all need to be informed of all our options and choose what's best for us based on our lifestyles and surgeon recommendations. I now feel absolutely confident in my surgeon and my choice of RNY after reading the comparisons. I will be glad to scan the article and send it as an email attachment to anyone who would like to read the surgery type comparisons if you don't want to wait until summer to get it from the ASBS. Please email me privately, off the list, and be patient as I anticipate several requests.
