Hernia question?

I thought I found a hernia a while ago, finally asked my PCP and she confirmed, then I went back to my surgeon and he agreed but nobody did an xray or anything....is that normal? I am scheduled for hernia repair surgery end of July but what if I don't really have one? I know this is probably crazy because I was sure before but now I'm wondering if they do any test to make sure before they open you up again. Thanks, Karen
