Sleep apnea symptoms

I haven't had my sleep test yet, so I don't know if I have it. But I'm having a strange, sleep-related problem. When I sleep on my left side (which I usually do), just as I 'm almost asleep, I get a sharp pain in my tongue! It's enough to wake me up. It's almost like I've bitten it (and I HAVE, a few times) but it hurts all the way back to the root of the tongue. Anyone ever had anything like this happen? And if so, did it go away after weight loss?
