Do timed-release medications work for us now?

I just had a laporoscopy on tuesday and my ob/gyn prescribed 20 mg oxycontin every 12 hours. This is a timed-release medication, and I'm finding that it's not working very well for me. After RNY, do timed-release medications not work anymore?
