Why do most people opt for RNY surgery versus Lap-Band?

I went to a WLS seminar last week and the Lap-Band surgery was by far the safer of the three procedures the surgeon talked about. I'm just wondering if it is as effective as the RNY procedure or does it depend on what region of the country you live in?
