Question:
How do I start losing again?

I'm 5 1/2 months out and lost 65# but have stayed the same for about two weeks.I see others eating every two hours is that the best? I need some ideas on what to do. My routine is --Water and pills then coffee, bkfst is usually 1/2 cup of Kashi Go-Lean cereal with 1/4 c of lactaid milk and usually 1/4c. of fruit, then wqater until lunch. Lunch is 3oz. of slice turkey and cheese or 2oz of cot tage cheese and one peice of fruit cut up then it is water until supper. Supper is 3oz of poultry or fish and 2oz. of a veggie, then it is water until about 7 or 8pm, I have a protein shake and my snack which is usually a low fat or fat free ice milk bar or fugsicle then water till I go to bed. So what am I doing wrong? I have bad knees from arthritis and I still have a wound from my incision that is healing so walking and water arobics is out for me for now. I use my cardioglide machine daily for about 6 min. I feel that this is it. I took my measurements and sure enough they are smaller but I'm afraid that I'm not doing well Help me someone.    — Janet S. (posted on October 7, 2002)

I'd personally feel like I was starving to death on that little bit of food...even at 5 1/2 mo post. Maybe you need a few extra snacks in there to boost your metabolism? I have a string cheese between bf/lunch and a low fat snack between lunch/dinner. Just an idea. -Kim open RNY 7/17/01 -132

I wouldn't get too worried at this stage. It sounds to me like you are eating correctly. Some times I have a 3 or 4 week plateau. Hang in there. It will come off. I never thought I would be where I am today -138. 9/7/2001 was my surgery date. Good luck to you. Marsha

Hi, just wanted you to know that I am at the same pace as you - 6 mos out, 65lbs. down, and I have not been diligent at all about my eating habits/exercize, except in getting protein in first. I(n fact, I think my adiction to nuts may be slowing down my weight loss.) Anyway, I think you're doing great, and your diet sounds very healthy, which is, after all, what we're all striving for : ) Warm regards!

I know how you feel! I am 4 1/2 months out, -69 lbs and have been on my first major plateau for about a month! I am trying to increase my protein and exercise, but it is frustrating. I am trying to battle thoughts that I am the "one that's going to screw up the surgery!" Hang in there!

I don't go by calories, usually, but by what KIND of calories. Well absorbed or malabsorbed. What I see are a lot of wasted calories, or sugar. If I ate this much sugar, I know I'd be hunfry most of the time, as well as being much heavier. A DAY like this would be OK now & then, but every day, no way. How many sugar g are you getting for bfast, for example, adding the fruit & milk & cereal all total? If more than single digit, that can hamper the long term wt loss. The "snack" at night is still just sugar, no food value, just calories to stick onto your hips. Can you make that nuts (which have a purpose) or veggies (which have fiber & some nutrition) or even popcorn, which is empty, but at least it won't do any damage? You might want to make that 2 protein shakes per day, one before bfast, as long as they do not include more fruit or milk. Make the calories you take in work FOR you, not AGAINST you. I saw you're getting in water--as much as 64 oz per day? If more, bravo & I'm jealous!
