Question:
Has anyone used protein shakes only without food to break a plateau.

Wondering if trying the protein shakes instead eating food for a few weeks to break a plateau. Would that be healthy or very dangerous. I want to keep loosing and not have this palteau I'm on. Surgery 4-17-02 down 72lbs    — Janet S. (posted on November 19, 2002)

Maybe for a few days. You'll still need your full compliment of vites, iron, calcium, water, of course. But please don't go with protein only past a few days. You still need some veggies/fruit, nuts, seeds grains. You can do it in a salad, but you'll still need a little "fat", as in butter, regular dressing, and some carbs. But they can be good grain bread or crackers on the side.

Please be careful when doing this. I tried it last week to break the dreaded plateau and ended up in a cardiologist's office today with violent palpitations and fainting spells. Turns out my ole ticker just isn't too happy when it doesn't have fuel to run on. Now I'm in for a whole battery of tests and scans, even having to wear a monitor around my neck for 24 hours, to see if any damage has been done. Believe me, it's best to cut back a little instead of going to drastic measures. It's not worth it!
