Question:
I am 3.5 weeks post op and am wondering what in the world happened

I have had NO problems at all since my surgery 8/28/01. I am down 25.5 pounds so far. I have been on soft foods and mushy foods for aver a week. I had pulled into Taco Bueno for "refried beans." I ate 3 tsp. when I got back into the office. All of a sudden I started puking, and I mean alot. I puked at work, puked in the car and puked when I got home. I had stomach cramps so bad I could hardly lay comfortable. I had diarreah, then puked some more. This lasted 8 hours. My question is: did I eat too fast, was it the beans, was it the fat in the beans, is there sugar in beans? Help please. I NEVER want to go thru this again.    — Helena R. Hi, I just wanted to let you know that what you described sounds more like a mild case of food poisoning, or even a 12 or 24 hour virus. A lot of people who are post op, eat A LOT of beans because they are a great source of protein. Just food for thought. Hope you are feeling better. :))

Agree with the last poster. I had exactly the same experience at one year post-op from BPD/DS and had never vomited before. It was so bad that fearing I had a blockage or some horrible intestinal complication I went to the ER where they diagnosed food poisoning. I had eaten a bagel with whitefish salad. I'll never eat white fish salad again. It was a horrible experience and scary to feel so sick so quickly.

WELL I USED TO WORK AT TACO BUENO-- I DONT THINK YOU GOT FOOD POISONING AT ALL -- THERE WAS WAY WAY TOO MUCH FAT IN YOUR BEANS - DO NOT EAT THE REFRIED BEANS FROM TACO BUENO THEY ADD CUPS OF LARD TO THE BEANS TO ADD FLAVOR ALSO TOPPED WITH HIGH FAT CHEESES --YOUR STOMACH WAS NOT READY FOR SO MUCH FAT

I agree with the previous post. I think it was too high in fat. When I eat something high in fat I too get diarreah and nauseous although I haven't thrown up. Be careful of eating out. I have had the rice from Taco Bell and was okay. But then had the nachos supreme thinking the beans would be at least some protein and it made me sick to my stomach. Just remember that fast food places keep costs down by cooking things cheaply not always healthy. I know if you're like me - I hate to throw up.
