Question:
Does anyone else loose like this?

I seem to go most of the month and not loose anything, then boom, loose 10lbs in a week, then back to nothing. I am 9 mnth post op from open RYN. I do my exercise, drink my water, eat my protein, limit my carbs, and no sugar. I have lost 139 lbs and was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I am not complaining about the 10 lbs per month, but every month I think, "this is it no more weight lose." It is frustrating.    — Sue B. (posted on October 24, 2001)

You are not alone. I can't understand it, but I don't knock it. I'll go an entire month and lose nothing, then wake up one morning 10-20 pounds lighter. It makes me extremely weak, and it occurs right before my cycle each month. I kid you not, one month it was 20 pounds in one day. Thanks for the question, I thought that I was just weird.

I have done this, too. I am now waiting for this month's weight loss to show up. I don't believe I have ever lost 10 lbs. in 1 week, though. I am 10 1/2 mths. post-op from an Open procedure. I have lost 145.5 lbs & have been stuck at 175.5 lbs. for this month. I even gained 2 1/2 lbs. this week! to bring the weight back up to 175.5. I wish I ate more protein but am getting burned out on it. Meat & beans & cheese, uck! I wish I was losing 10 lbs. a month. I would be happy with that, whatever way it happened! Just be glad it IS happening. Good luck.

I thought I was reading my own posting! I have the exact same thing happening to me. I'll go for almost the entire month with may be 1 lb. Then I'll loose 6 - 10#. I'm 9.5 months out and have lost 124#. I'm happy at this point with any loss. Hang in there!

What are you worried about??? You are doing great...congratulations!!! I had a similar pattern. I didn't lose weight every week either. I lost 25 pounds the first two weeks. After that I see any weight loss for 3 or 4 weeks...then oila!....I'd lose 8 pounds one week....6 the next. Then nothing for 3 weeks yada yada yada. It went like that for the whole year during which I lost 110lbs. (my goal was 140). After one year I stabilized. I accepted the status quo for 2 years...I've gained 5lbs. But, now I'm trying ever so hard to lose another 30lbs. I'm trying to make better use of this "tool" we have.

Yep, me too! I get so disappointed when I don't lose constantly that I'm weighing only once a month now. I am also 9 mos. post-op RNY open and I have lost only 90 lbs compared to your 139...that is GREAT...CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Actually I know just how you feel. My weight loss comes at the first of the month right after i give myself my B12 injection, then the next 3 weeks NOTHING. On an average, I only lose approximately 4 to 5lbs per month, I wish I could lose 10. I don't really exercise or drink alot of water because for some reason, I feel overly full when I drink too much. Maybe I should increase my water and physical activity and my weight loss may go up to 10 a month.

I do the same thing, and still lose 10 lbs a month. I can go 3 weeks and not lose anything, get a b12 shot and take some water pills and damn if I dont lose 8-10 lbs in a weekend. Every month I think I am done losing and I dont weigh 174 yet. That is my goal to say I lost 200 lbs. I should weigh that before christmas and then maybe by next july my 2 yr anniversary from surgery I can weigh 150 my last and final goal for myself. I know I will have to exercise to get to that and probably have some skin operations but I am comitted to make this surgery a success.
