Question:
I can eat 9- 10 oz at 2 months post-op, is this normal?
Plateaus: Food amount Question: I can eat 9-10 oz at 2 months post-op is this normal? I am 2 months post-op with the Duodenal switch and I can eat 9 to 10 oz at a meal. The Dr. said that my stomach was 6 oz right after surgery and I am hungery all the time and I am afraid that I will never lose the weight. In the first 3 weeks I lost 33 lbs and than in the last 5 weeks only 5 lbs. I am just really scared I will never lose the weight and will have gone throught the surgery for nothing. Any suggestions? — [Anonymous] (posted on October 25, 2001)

I didn't have the same surgery as you.(I had the RNY) but I am 2 months
post op and can still only take about 2 or 21/2 oz. of food at one time.
You may want to try taking in less and adding more meals.

I had a BPD(no DS) on May 9th. I also started out with a 6oz.stomach, but I
have always been able to eat a lot. My surgeon said that the stomach
enlarges pretty quickly after surgery, but that is not a problem with our
type of procedure. The important thing is to get all our protein in and
keep your sugar intake at a minimum. I know that DS folks can handle sugar,
but you still absorb all of it and it`will slow your weightloss down. I had
a 3 week plateau at about 2 months out and also thought I'd never lose
another`pound, until I discovered that I was eating some hidden sugars
(i.e. sugar alcohols in "sugar-free" candy, fast-food hamburger
buns, etc.). I quit eating those things and the weight started coming back
off. I have lost about 84 lbs. and am so happy I made the decision to have
this surgery. Your plateau will break soon. You have lost a lot of weight
in a short time, you have to give your body a chance to catch up. Keep your
protein level high, sugar low, and be thankful that we are blessed with a
surgery where we can eat like this!
