Question:
Has this surgery failed.

I have not lost any weight for over a month and half since month 4. I am still 50lbs from goal and extremely worried that this is it.    — [Anonymous] (posted on January 1, 2002)

If you are only 50 pounds from your goal, I have to assume you have lost a significant amount of weight already, so NO, your surgery has not failed. Congratulations on making it to within 50 pounds of your goal! It is more likely that your weight lose has just slowed way down. You may just have to make a few changes in order to lose that last 50 pounds. Exercise a little more, eat a few less carbs and more protein, drink more water. I am not saying these are the end all and be all for kicking a plateau, I'm just saying look at what you are eating and drinking and how much exercise you are getting and see if there is something there you could change to help you realize your goal. I know there are days, especially during the Holidays, where I have eaten foods I shouldn't have or eaten more then I should have and did a lot more sitting around because it has gotten cold outside and who wants to go out and walk now. Relatives come to visit and you sit and talk and then go out to eat, etc. So, put your last couple of months behind you and look ahead to what you can achieve and I'll bet by the time spring comes you'll be hitting your goal and looking for new shorts and a swimsuite.

Congrats on the weight you have lost! Relax, a 6 week plateau isn't all that unusual. Just keep doing all the right things and you'll start losing again. If I'm counting correctly. you are only at the 6 month mark. Once you get past this mother of a plateau, your weight loss will probably be slower...with additional plateaus.

Make sure that you take your measurements in addition to weighing. You may not be losing weight but still may be losing inches. Also try tracking your calories/protein to see what you are taking in. I don't know what your dr/nutritionist recommends, but I averaged 800 to 1000 calories a day for the first 6 months or so. I used www.fitday.com (it's free) every couple of weeks to make sure I was still on track nutritionally.
