Question:
will it be harmful if you don't eat more than 300 calories in a days time?

Iam 2mo post op and today was the first time I WASN'T ABLE to eat my regular meals. just a protein drink this morning which means I ONLY HAS 210 CALORIES TODAY WILL THIS BE HARMFUl or cause problems?    — NANCY M. (posted on January 13, 2002)

Hi Nancy...as long as it isn't an on going thing, eating that much , or that little as the case may be, isn't going to hurt you. Just don't make a habit out of it. If it happened all the time then Yes, I would say it would definately be harmful..

I don't lose weight unless I consume at least 700 calories a day. That said, yesterday I had around 400 calories. If it's a ONCE IN A WHILE thing, I'd say don't worry. If you are doing this frequently to try to lose more weight, it will be counterproductive. Under 500 or 600 calories, your body knows it's starving and puts on the metabolic brakes. On days like you had yesterday, I'd drink protein drinks all day, at 110 calories each, and would usually manage around 550 calories in a day. Also, on can't-eat-much-food days, be sure to consume all of your water, AT LEAST 2 liters. I shoot for 3.5 each day.
