Question:
Coughing 6 days post-op

I went in to hospital feeling just fine and left with a horrible cough. My cough is so bad that I feel like I'm going to bust a stitch, even though I use my pillow. It hurts so when I'm coughing that I have to take my pain med afterwards. Is this normal? Any suggestions?    — Jennifer C (posted on March 16, 2002)

You really should call up your surgeon and/or doctor to ask. It is really safer this way. Something could be going on that needs medical attention. Better safe than sorry.
