Hi! I will be 12 wks post op tomorrow (7/2) and am down 48# and feeling great. I thought this was being a slow loser too till my Dr. showed my progress on his chart. I'm right on target and doing a pretty hefty drop. I started at 331 and am 5'6". I'm learning to relax more and not get concerned with numbers as I'm also learning we all lose differently. Congratulations on your loss....you're doing great.

Debbie, You are doing just great! I am 8 weeks post op and have lost 50 pounds. I am 5'5" and am 51 years old. You did not mention your age and I am not sure, but think that is a factor for some people. At 5 weeks I had "only lost" 25 pounds and was discouraged until I thought about when I had last lost 25 pounds and how long and hard that had been. All of a sudden that number doubled. I guess I had plateaued. But in the future, I am not going to look at the scale or numbers as much as think about how good I feel, how I can breathe again, move more easily, have more confidence, am proud of what I have done for myself, etc. etc. etc! I don't have a scale and am not going to get one in the near future. My clothing tells enough of the story for me! Don't get discouraged...think about and observe how you are feeling! :-)

Debbie, you are doing wonderful!! LIke the other posters said, everyone loses differently and at a different rate. I was 5'6", 350# and 37 at the time of my surgery on December 13 2002. I've lost nearly 150 lbs in just under seven months. I AM NOT TYPICAL!!! My doctors are really concerned because I am losing/lost weight too fast. Yeah, it's been nice too lose that much weight, but it's worrisome, too. The thing that I am doing that a lot of people don't do is staying on my diet STRICTLY. I don't let in one extra gram of fat, one extra calorie, one less hour of exercise or lose one therapy session. :~) I've known women who have not understood their lack of weight loss and come to find out they had been eating "sugar free" candy, ice cream, etc., which is all well and good, but sometimes those sugar free things have hidden sugars in them. Check your labels on your foods to make sure there aren't any hidden sugars or sugar alcohols. I know we are allowed sugar alcohols, but find stuff that has two grams or less. It isn't easy! Sugar alcohols cause you to release extra insulin, and we all know what that does...! Double check your food labels, make sure you are sticking to your diet, water and exercise regimine, and before you know it, fifty more lbs will have fallen off and you'll be looking around wondering how that happened! :~) Good Luck and lots of hugs. It's the hardest thing I have ever done, but the one with the most rewards!

Debbie... I wanted to clarify something... I wasn't insinuating that you were sneaking treats or anything, okay? I was just telling you my experiences. :~) I hope I didn't offend you! Hugs!

I, too, worry about not losing fast enough. I am 5' 2 1/2" and started out at 292 exactly 1 year ago. June 28, 2001. I am now 205 and I haven't lost anything in the past 2 months. I think I eat too many carbs and I feel pretty bad about it but cannot seem to stop. I am now planning to attend a local support group that just started so I should get better I hope. Good luck.
