Question:
Can you be in ketosis and not lose pounds?

I have used the keto sticks for a week now, and have been in the moderate range and have not lost a single pound. Is this possible? I think im on a plateau again!! I have to fight for every lost pound. RNY 4/46/02 -60# 5'2 255#    — DEBBIE C. (posted on August 2, 2002)

The fat you've lost through ketosis is temporarily being replaced by water. Please just hang in there--another day or two and you will see a dramatic drop in weight as your body releases the water weight. Congratulations and best wishes.

Debbie, It goes two ways. You can be in ketosis, and not lose or you can not be in ketosis and still lose. My doctor is highly against ketosis. It is hard on the kidneys and the heart even over a seemingly short period of time. He told me today that we need to use glucose and then protein as our energy source and then the fat will burn off in its own time. He asked me why I would want to put my body into a state that can cause a diabetic to go into a coma. Diabetic or not, yes it can happen to anyone with little or no warning. Really put me to thinking. I didn't go through this to die of something I brought on myself. Ask your doctor for his opinion on ketosis. Not all doctors are totally against it. (I'm down 28# in 6 weeks, and no ketosis). Good Luck on whatever you decide.

Debbie, my ketostix results say I am also in "moderate" ketosis. I just went 4 days or so without losing an ounce and then I lost 2 pounds in 2 days. I don't know why it happens like that, but it did. Be patient and you will lose again soon.
