Question:
I have an Endoscopy done on Monday morn.

What do I expect? I get really worried and tend to have a panic attack and sometimes pass out. Just like when my doctor was just marking me for my TT, I almost passed out and had to lay down. I didnt even have any medication yet. So I am scared. I dont do well when things like cultures or and NG tube is put down my throat. I seem to have a Bad Gag reaction. Right now sitting here typing this I am getting naseous just thinking about it. Well anything will help. Tell me your experiences good and bad please.    — lynbaby B. (posted on October 2, 2002)

I have had an endoscopy and my husband has had 2 and neither of us had a problem. They give you a drug that give you amnisah(can't spell) After the proceedure, you won't remember a thing. Good luck

I have had 5 dilations. They give you Demerol and Versed, and if you gag a lot, like I did, they will give you more Demerol.

I've had two endoscopies. No big deal. They will start an IV and then give you demerol in it. Right before the doctor is ready to start, they put versed in the IV. You are out like a light. The last thing I remember was the nurse putting a plastic thing with a hole in it in my mouth. Next thing I knew I was in recovery. And my throat wasn't even sore afterwards.

I've had MANY scopes, starting long before my surgery. My experiences were all like Patty's. The pain was only in the IV stick, and then fuzzy memory of the little mouth thingy (no pain, no discomfort, just a little gadget to make it easier for everyone, then HELLO? When are you gonna start? Very simple. Signed, Biggest Wimp On Earth

I had one endoscopy done about 2 months after surgery, and I don't remember a thing. The worst part was getting the IV in. It took them 4 tries and then they decided to go for the big vein on the inside of my elbow. All I remember is laying in the bed talking to the nurses and then the next thing I know, I'm in recovery. Nothing to it. Don't be scared, it'll be okay.

You really won't feel a thing the only thing is the iv they put in your vein but thats like geting your blood drawed. They give you enough sedatives to knock you out and spray the back of your throat with lidocaine to numb it. Then it only takes 15minutes and your back in the recovery room.
