Question:
Any Non Overeaters losing slower?

My question is are there any other people out there that had WLS but that weren't overeaters and since surgery are now losing slowly?

I was wondering this because I never have been an overeater, instead I started gaining weight drastically every time I had a female change. The two main times were when I was young and started menustration, I began to gain a lot. Then after I had my daughter 3 years ago, I have gained like crazy. In between and after those times, I ate one meal a day. Or when I was young and foolish, I would always do those crazy things like not eating all day, exercising like crazy etc... to try and control my weight. Which of course never worked for me and just resulted in my metabolism being messed up.

Anyways now that I have had surgery (RNY, October 21st) I feel like I am losing slowly, especially in comparison to those that I know were overeaters prior to surgery. So I was wondering is there a relation between weight loss after surgery and the restrictive intake and whether one was an over eater or not?Anyone know if there is any information on this?

— [Deactivated Member] (posted on January 9, 2003)

I have always felt that my Endocrine disorder was the cause of my slow, and subsequently "minimum" weight loss....

I tried to post, forgive if this is duplicate. I am not an overeater; however I do have an Endocrine Disorder that I have always felt has hindered my weightloss. Soon I will try and go the distance again and get to goal weight (to see if it is just *me* or my condition), but have to wait until I have the baby.

Karen, thanks for the reply. I have never been checked for PCOS but I have many of the sypmtoms of it so that is probably me too. I wonder if it is possible to work around these things? Best of luck to you!

I'm curious to know if you have changed your eating habits since the surgery? Your question is a very good one, and by reading it, it appears to me that you have/had an eating disorder. Only eating "once a day" and "exercising like crazy", fasting as well as overeating all are signs of an eating disorder(s). This maybe why you gained weight and never lost it or would yo yo? I never realized I had an eating disorder till I looked into it last yr. I didn't overeat or eat crap. So, my only suggestion is to make sure you take care of yourself right now, by eating right. Do as your Dr. says, eat 3-6 small meals, protein first, then the rest.. You have to get your metbolism back on track. Congrats on the 60# loss...keep up the good work! Best of luck to you....

I'm 5 weeks out from RNY. I've never been an overeater. I've always eaten modest portions and healthy food. I can't remember the last time I ate at a fast food restaurant, or ate fried food. I didn't eat red meat and I ate very few sweets. I've just never been able to keep weight off. My PCP could never figure out a reason, they tested me for everything they could think of. Since surgery I've lost 26 pounds, but have plateaued for the last 2 weeks. I was afraid before I had the surgery that it wouldn't work for me. I kept thinking that if I changed from eating super sized big mac meals to eating a post-op diet, that would be such a major change that I'd have to lose. But to change from what I was eating to the post-op diet wasn't as drastic of a change. I hope my plateau is a normal plateau that we all go through. I still fear that I won't lose like everyone else.
