Question:
Hi~~I'm about 5 mos post-op and having trouble eating. I would like to know
what food do you eat that has the MOST PROTEIN! Any suggestions would be appreciated! — Alice W. (posted on January 10, 2003)

Alice, by now you should know which foods have the most protein in them,
being 5 months out. In addition to our protein supplements (shakes, drinks
and bars), any meat/poultry/seafood will have the highest amounts of
protein. Dairy products, like cheese/milk/eggs etc also have protein,
though not as high an amount as the meats/fishes. I found that some things
I tolerated very well pre-op just do not agree with me now, such as Chinese
food(used to be a favorite), and pizza. Not sure why. If you are looking
for soft protein foods, try steamed white fish, refried beans with melted
cheese or eggs.

I have a poached egg on wheat toast OR 1/2 c cottage cheese for breakfast,
3 oz of tuna with tomatoes and salad dressing for lunch, and for dinner
have 4-5 oz of one of these: chicken, swordfish, shrimp, ground turkey,
steak, crab, or ham. I am about 3 months lap RNY and can tolerate steak
(chewed very well, small bites), but not everyone can. This totals about
60-65 g of protein each day.

Hi hun. I know that you're going to get lots of responses regarding
protein, so mine is to counteract what Cindy said. Cindy, she's not
looking for a mini-lecture. No matter how far post op anyone is, or what
they "should know", we can ALL benefit from other people's
advice. Don't forget where you came from just because you aren't there any
more.

Hi, I am also 5 months post op any have a difficult time figuring out what
I should be eating. Don't worry that some people think you should no it
all by now. I have not had very much guidance at all from a nutritionist
because I live far from my surgeon and the nutritionists in my area have no
expertise in this area. I have gotten one now though even though she is an
hour away it's worth the drive. This site has been a huge help to me
though.
I eat eggs, cheese, yogurt SF, Milk, occasionally I will have a protein bar
or shake. Refried beans are good with melted cheese and taco sauce on them.
Chicken and Turkey have alot of protein in them but I have had tremendous
puke problems. Only recently could I even smell chicken again, let alone
eat it. Since I've begun to be able to eat a wider variety I've tried to
branch out. If you aren't able to eat hamburger try something like a
tender medium to m/rare cooked steak/prime rib. Shrimp can be good if its
small and tender. And my new favorite crabs legs or lobster. Tuna is high
in protein, deli turkey or chicken or Roast beef rolled around a piece of
cheese. I hope some of these ideas are helpful. Good Luck and HAPPY
Losing. 7/31/02 5'3" 243 to start LAP RNY -66 and counting :-)
