Question:
How much weight can I expect to lose?

How much weight can someone who's starting weight was 317 and is 5'11" expect to lose. I've only lost 47lbs in aproximately 13 weeks, and the scale has not moved in the last 3 weeks. If there is anyone on the site with the same height and weight, I'd sure love to hear from you!    — Dorothy B. No one can answer this question except you! How much do *you* want to lose and how badly do you want to lose it? Are you willing to exercise, to eat mostly protein, some green, leafy vegetables, and drink protein shakes? Are you willing to do whatever it takes to lose the amount of weight you want to lose? Every *body* is different - some will eat carbs, never exercise, and then struggle to keep enough weight on to not look cadaverous. Others will never reach goal, no matter how hard they work. For now, drink plenty of water, eat plenty of protein, drink your protein shakes, and exercise, you're just on a plateau. It'll break. Change things around a little, eat a little more protein, or add a shake, change your exercise routine. Good luck!

You are actually pretty close to a lightweight. At 5'11 you were not really much more than 120-130 lbs overweight. So you will likely lose slower than someone another 100 lbs heavier. In reality you are probably 40% to your goal in 13 weeks, which is awesome. If you follow the plan and get in the water and exercise you will undoubtedly hit your goal.

To Lisa: It would be helpful if you clarified that what you are writing about is your surgeon's plan and might not be approriate for everyone. Many of the things you have written are very contrary to my surgeon's plan, especially the 1000 calories. It is most important that each person follow THEIR surgeon's plan for at least the first 6 months.

I've not had mine yet(3 weeks preop), but I was told to expect to loose 1/2 to 2/3 of your EXTRA body weight. For ex, if your height and bone structure puts you at 140 and you weigh 300, you have 160 lbs to loose. Depending on how you are willing to work for it, you can loose as little as 80 lbs, or as much as all 160 lbs. I'm at 290 and frankly would be happy to get to 175, eventhough I'm supposed to be at 120. My doctor thinks 175 is a realistic weight because I have pcod and hypothyroidism, and even with meds, I probably won't loose all my weight.
