What are you eating? Most surgeons have their 2-week post-ops on nothing more than pureed/soft foods (some are still on liquids). Are you chewing your food enough? JR

Remember to treat your new pouch as you would a infants.Meaning introduce new foods one at a time. You have to chew and chew and when you think your done chewing chew again.My question is Have you talked to your doctor about this? and if you have what has he'she say about it? and if you havnt talk to your doc about it why not? This happened to me yesterday. I was eating way to fast and the food felt like it got stuch in my esophagus and just laid in my chest pain. It really hurt too. As soon as I vomited, which is something I really try to avoid, I was fine. Maybe you are eating too fast, even with soft foods. I am about three months postop and I am still adjusting. Take things day by day and everything will work out fine. Good luck to you on your journey - Daphine

Hi Lindy, My advice is to listen to your body/pouch. It's telling you don't give me anything more than the baby food right now. Everyone is different. Give yourself another couple of weeks on the liquids and pureeds and then try slowly something soft. There is alot of healing that needs to take place internally with that new pouch and everything is VERY swollen. I was like you except that I couldn't vomit and laid in pain for up to 24 hours at a time.....I listened fast when that happened. Sometimes when you have a bad bout backing off and going on liquids for 24 hours helps things settle down a bit. Also, eating is a trial and error for several months in the beginning. Just listen to your body and what it is telling you and take care of that new baby pouch...it is tender and healing. Hang in there it does get better and you will be eating real food again one day before you know it! ((((Hugs)))) Roberta~ Lap RNY 9/10/03 262/158/135-145...I'll know when I get there! :o}

Hi~ I agree with everyone here. I had the same thing and it's hard to get used to.........but, you will get used to it and learn to listen to your pouch. You'll learn, it'll become second nature...........just be patience and be kind to that pouch of yours.

I had the same problem. Turned out that my esophagus swelled shut because of all the reflux prior to surgery. To fix it they just do an endoscopy and stretch it out with a balloon. I haven't had any problems since. Oh, and by the way, get it checked sooner rather than later. I kept waiting, thinking that it was normal after surgery stuff, but it got to the point where I coulnd't even swallow liquid. Hope I helped Charly
