Question:
HELP!!! I'm five months out and I have gained 9 pounds this past month.

I know that we may gain some but is it normal? I haven't changed my diet nor my excerise program. The only medications I am on are Depo-Provera, B-12, and vitamins. Should I call my Doctor?    — Nicole B. (posted on April 17, 2003)

Remember, if you are exercising now you are gaining lean muscle mass. Do not assume just because the scale went up this is a bad thing. Gaining muscle is as important as buring fat.

Yes, I'd be worried about a 9 lb gain. It's common for the weight loss to slow down the further out you are, but even with gaining muscle you should be maintaining your weight and losing slowly, while you gain muscle which weighs more than fat you should still be losing, albeit slowly, overall. Perhaps is the Depo, I don't know much about that but I'd research it if I were you. Also keep a log for a few days of everything you're eating, if you like to snack (like I do) the calories can really add up without your realizing it. Remember calories burned must be greater than calories consumed to lose weight no matter how you do it.

I would bet money it is the depo. Note the question I posted earlier today about still having it in my system. I gained 15 pounds in one month and I have not had the surgery. The stuff is lethal. Check out this website http://www.abcinternetmarketing.com/depo-provera/. The stories will amaze you. Mine has not come off.....I hope it does not slow my loss once I have the surgery. I've not had a shot since Dec.

I can understand your concern!! I would be calling the doc to see if I had a staple line disruption.

I would also bet that it is the depo-provera. If its the same drug I am thinking of, my vet prescribed it for my female bird to get her to stop laying eggs and warned me one of the side effects is weight gain. That poor little cockatiel became ravenous and almost doubled her size for a month until the drug left her system!!
